Crysis 2 is number 1! - Page 8

IMHO I thougt didn't think Crysis 1 and Warhead were very good! Yes they looked amazing but they were too open. Too much running around doing nothing. They didn't flow very well.

Crysis 2 may not be as graphically ground breaking but it's more playable and more fun. Also because it seems it has been ported from console version the control system is alot slicker. I like it and once they get some of the bugs sorted it'll make things better.

I don't care about if the engine is good, I want to see impressive products built around it. Or actually no, I care about the engine yes and I'm all for technological advancement, but you have to admit that without any products that utilize it it's kind of useless.

This was never about cryengine 3, this was about crysis 2. And with C2 I think that crytek dropped the ball and lied to it's original userbase about their product. If you wish to believe otherwise you're free to do so.

Yeah, because anti/-fanboy'sm is when you can't stop arguing about whether something is good or bad. You made your point once, leave it be then.

And before you say something about me drooling on Crysis 2 - no I don't, I believe they could have made it better.

In all honesty, I hated Crysis. That game was just crap, but looked good.

Crysis 2 online is the **** tho! I dig the graphics, and the online play is actually so fun!

9/10 for Crysis 2 IMO.

I basically describe this game as CoD with a nanosuit. They have pretty much removed everything that made the original so unique (aside from the obvious, aka the nanosuit).

I mean for crying out loud, with a game engine thats so far advanced, they couldnt even incorporate a proper lean function into the game and they didnt even try with prone - why?

Because its nothing more then a console port.

Im sending my copy back to amazon.

again I never stated my opinion on my original post. I just stated that popularity =/= quality.

And I was not about to say that you're a fanboy.

I would really like to buy crysis 2 for the gameplay, even if I think it's inferior compared to the first installment of the series. But on principle I am not going to buy it. It's a fact that crytek lied about the game, a cold hard fact. It doesn't matter how good or bad it is, those are just opinions.

I feel like the latter has given people a false impression of what upsets people like me.

The arguments on DX11 are pointless; DX11 doesn't make the game; Crysis looks amazing even on DX9. Crysis 2 has been proven to have made graphical compromises, thus bringing the overall quality lower than the originals; half-sized textures being one of them. Crysis 2 still looks good, there's no doubt about that; but it's using the same type of "trickery" that allow games on consoles to look "better" as they sometimes do, like blurring, particle effects, etc.

I won't accept the argument that the game "finally runs well on most hardware." Crysis/Warhead still looked fantastic with lowered settings, and they sure as well could've done the same with Crysis 2. The current state of the game could've been set as a "medium" settings level for the rigs that can currently max it, with expanded "extreme" settings for those who have the hardware to run it more impressively, like myself. In that scenario, the majority still gets fantastic visuals, consoles can run it, and it feels like a proper successor in the graphics department.

Crysis 2 is, in fact, linear compared to the originals. There's little to no room for being imaginative in encounters. It's almost claustrophobic; all of the "battles" are in comparatively tiny areas.

Fun factor? You can't even argue this; it's entirely subjective. Here's my take. I played through the originals a few weeks before Crysis 2 was released. This past Monday, I started up on C2, and finished it by Wednesday. The first 2/3 or so was fairly boring. In that last chunk, things started to get interesting, but the AI was dumb enough to make it a cake-walk with improved stealth. The game also started to get the illusion that it looked better, probably because of the alien models and abundance of shine effects. The end was fairly abrubt and lackluster; not even a challenge. As far as the nanosuit goes, it's more streamlined, sure, but extremely dumbed down compared to the firsts; there's no challenge in properly managing modes anymore. It was still crazy in its own sense, mindless in a way, so I had a bit of fun.

I would take the originals over this any day. Very little freedom, not-as-good graphics (notice how I didn't say poor graphics?), dumbed down control scheme, etc.

There are my thoughts, take it how you will.

EDIT: Forgot to mention multiplayer. It's somewhat fun, and a change of pace from BC2; but it feels like CoD, as much as I hate making that comparison, and CoD just isn't all that for me. It feels like a lot of suit mode abuse, and very little in the way of tactics; it has essentially been "first one to shoot wins." It's something I might fire up once in a while, but not consistently.

EDIT2: Also, on the topic of the originals, it takes a different approach to appreciate the first games. At first, from what I had heard, I took it as essentially a tech demo; I started seeing the game in a new light a while later, and NanosuitNinja's videos on YouTube convinced me that I had played it all wrong. I definitely wasn't one of the people that hated on Crysis and suddenly changed my opinion. I regard it as one of the better games ever released on the PC.
This, definitely this. Well said, I completely agree.

My point is that the haters were flaming Crysis 2 way before it was even released. They wanted this game to fail so that Crytek would 'learn their lesson for betraying the PC fanbase'.

I am just glad many people were mature enough to ignore the trolls and experience the game with an open mind. With this success Crytek might put out Crysis 3, or another game that is similar.
