I think I may have some good information for you seeing as I am a HUGE Silent Hill fan myself.

Born from a Wish is a sub-scenario which focuses on Maria before she and James meet.

Letters from Silent Hill Heaven from what I know is just a Fan made website that is dedicated to Silent Hill 2. Other than that I didn't remember playing that in the directors cut.

Personally if you want to know what is going on that pretty much leads up to Silent Hill 2 then play Born from a Wish, otherwise if you don't you won't be missing out on "much".

As for the riddles, the difficulty level makes it so they give you MUCH less clues and harder puzzles to figure out. Honestly even the riddle on easy are difficult, so unless you are a pr0 at mind boggling wording then I wouldn't suggest the harder ones. But as a second play through then I would do that just for the challenge. The riddles on each difficulty level are not the same answers either luckily. Lol

Hop that gave you the information you needed! Happy playing! Don't piss your pants when... well... never mind.

This.

I played SH2 to death on PS2 and when I got the Xbox version it was a nice suprise to play the Born from A Wish sub-scenario. It's not really needed to understand the plot (which is difficult anyway, lol) but it's a nice addition for SH uber-fans like myself.

Letter from Silent Heaven is the name given to the main scenario with James.

Sorta off-topic, but I'm going back and watching the cutscenes from SH2 on YouTube, and god how creepy that game could be. For anyone interested, look up fungo, he put them all together with bits of gameplay and made a movie out of it.
