New Job and its complications - Page 3

dude..... if the boss askeds you why are you taking so long to fix XP jst ask yourself why is he not doing it....?? he probably knows nothng of it anyway... also try and weigh the time up of fixing an operating system and doing a fresh install....... that helps getting pc's in and out faster than needed..... some companyies are like that. when i had my company depending on how bad the OS was corrupted, i would give the client the option of fresh install or fix and give both costs involved.... but yes when in a new job it is not easy working out the way others work.... it takes a bit of time to get used to the way the company works etc...... also you are young..... they will walk over you till they think you are worthy.... all i can say, is take it for a few weeks and prove to them you can do this.....

as for the boss saying he is going to fire you..... that is sot right on his side.... new kid on the block.... it is just correct in bussnice practice to give the new guy some training (even if he does know what to do - show him the ropes) so he can get the feel of the place.

do not let yourself become a victum in this... you do have your rights.....

also if you do know how to do a job and can see you are going to take a little long, tell your team leader the story what is wrong tell him what you think is the best way to fix it and what does he think?? that way you are keeping you table clean and open and the team leader know what is happening and when the boss comes to you you can say i spoke to the team leader and he said yes.... so the ball is in his court not yours

but do not walk away from your job... it is your foot in the door and just try your best.... that way you are safe and clean etc..

Stick with it m8, getting your foot in the door is the hardest part. I've been job hunting for a few months now since leaving my last repair shop job, IT is an expanding but competitive industry.

agree with the confidence advice. Just try not to show that you feel overwhelmed. Keep your head up and do the best you can. I work for AT&T but whenever I go into best buy I end up selling all kinds of stuff because people see me and ask questions. Im confident in what I say and they take my word for it. Ive had best buy employees be second guessed just because I act more confident than them!

When the boss yells at you, just acknowledge him, say yes sir, understood sir, will pay more attention to that sir, etc. brush it off and move on. As Tennobanzai said above, some managers have to act that way to get their jobs done, and some are just jerks on power trips. Either way, brush it off and do your best!

The nice thing about IT work is often times you can do a google search and find answers for most problems if you get stuck.

As I'm sure you'll find out one day, this is not how the real world works.

he said, ask yourself why is he not doing it. I think he means as an aside to yourself to make you feel better about the situation. Not to actually say it to the boss.
