Using code NEWGEEK25

Must create new account with new email address

I found this info regarding capacity:
OCZ Vertex 2 34nm:
Advertised Capacity: 120GB / 111.76GB in Windows
Actual Capacity: 120GB / 111.76GB in Windows

OCZ Vertex 2 25nm:
Advertised Capacity: 120GB / 111.76GB in Windows
Actual Capacity: 115GB / 107GB in Windows

We'll know soon enough what we'll get with the Vertex 3.
All the reviews on the web have looked at the 240 so far and they have stated the 240s will have a usable capacity of 223 so i figure the 120 will be 111.

I only say "might" because I am awaiting the delivery of my Maximus IV mobo to complete my new system. That was tough to get in the last few weeks. I have everything else now. The mobo should be in today or tomorrow. Otherwise I'd only be be able to bench sata II numbers on my older system and that's no fun.

I'll just have to drool over the packaging or create a vertex 3 shrine tonight if the board doesn't come. So close but yet so far away.

So amazon says it usually ships in 1-2 months. If I paid for 3 day shipping would it be 2-3 days after the 1-2 months?

It will be delivered within 2-3 days of whenever it is shipped. Amazons 1-2 month estimate seems way off. I think they just default to that when they don't have a confirmed date for when they will be receiving the specific item.

Well, I am finally up an running with the new system and the vertex 3 as an OS drive. Here is my system I put together today since my motherboard came in. Still playing and learning about the mobo, tweaking as I go.

asus maximus IV
Intel I7 2600K
Coolermaster V8
8gb corsair xms3 2000 (running it a 1866 c8 right now. 2000 doesn't look like and option. goes from 1866 right to 2133 in the bios)
1x vertex 3 120 (and another 120 on the way since I can't find a 240 available)
silverstone ft02 case.
1000w titan PSU
2x geforce 460's in sli
windows 7 64bit sp1

the cpu/mobo overclocked to 5ghz no problems. I left it there for now. When I benchmark the cpu at this speed, the V8 can't keep up with the heat. Goes from 40c to the 90's in like 30 seconds. I may have to take the fan off auto, manually up the fan speed and give another twist on the back of the support nuts for the cooler and see what happens. I left a little play in there.

The vertex 3 is very fast. It is noticeably "snappier" than the vertex 2. Writes are a little lower than expected. Depends what benchmark tool you use. Otherwise, so far so good. I loaded my OS, drivers and supporting software in a flash (no pun intended). I usually dread system builds because they are long and painful. This came together very quickly. The drive seems solid and trustworthy thus far as well. No early warning signs of a rushed out the door product. I had multiple softwares running, updating and installing at the same time in the build process and everything went flawless.

I am trying to improve write speed a bit. I have AHCI on, but isn't there a write cache ticker that makes a difference in performance? The AS ssd bench I cant even get past a 150mbs write. I have seen in pre-reviews on the web, numbers that are nearly double that. However, ATTO had killer 500+mbs read and write results. I have it on the intel 6gbs controller on the IV board as well.

If anyone wants to see a particular bench, let me know.

That is interesting that you are only getting 150mb/s rate. When I installed a Vertex II on the ole laptop that is the same rate I get with harddrive tune, however if I did the benchmark testing it went all the way up to 275 MB/S perhaps it just the program.
