[ArsTech] Sony v. Hotz: mismatched serial numbers and sealed manuals - Page 7

It's really hard for me not to cheer for the underdog when he's facing a billion dollar multi-national corporation; especially when his lawyers seem to be holding their own so well.

This is clearly one of those cases where it's clear that Hotz and his goon are completely crapping their pants, realizing that sony is out for blood and they have no defense.
So what do they do? They argue stupid irrelevant garbage to derail the court. What the hell does him not knowing SCEA existed make even any sense yet alone has to do with the trial?

Also, the serial numbers mismatch doesn't make sense. I'm sure there is something more behind that. Also realize, that anyone with any kind of PS3 could make a PSN account. Why wasn't it mentioned that George could've and does own multiple PS3s? It's in his videos, he owns like 5.

Exactly. It's a fruitless argument to simply buy time or get off scott free by raising other issues to counter the original.

how does that twist the argument? That quote JUMPED out of the article at me through my screen, smacked me in my face, and I was/still am baffled at how that even remotely makes sense and how they could even try to argue that with anyone.
It's one thing to shake your finger at a "big corporation" that's "oh so evil and corrupt" (XD) about the stuff they've been doing, but to try and argue that you didn't know it existed in the first place? That's..... absolutely insane.

doesn't it say "Sony Computer Entertainment America" at the beginning of every game you start up on a Playstation 3?

...or is that just mine?

So. It was a single page article, how many people didn't read or understand it? I wouldn't count it by posts, i'd count it by pages. I'm really not sure why there is hostility towards each other or even George Hotz, in this thread.

For anyone and everyone here who is too thick headed to get it, i'll explain in very easy words....

George Hotz, AKA as Geohotz, is one of us. Period. He's voiding warranties, just like you and I. He could even have an account here on ocn under something other than GeoHotz. For all you know, Duckie and Geo could be the same person. (they're not, I know what town Duckie lives in and i'm watching him from his front lawn. BTW, the new couch is nice, lol.)

SO! OT:

If the box and everything else all say Sony Japan, then that seems pretty solid. Its an international dispute. Personally, I'd like to see it go international, instead of coming to Jersey. I think he has a better chance internationally. Sony is just pissin away money on lawyer's fees right now, and if by some strange reason they win, then i don't see why we couldn't file a class action lawsuit against Sony for taking away the Linux ability that was sold with the unit.

I think this is the weakest part of the story.
The neighbor got the PS.
But she was having problems with her ISP.
So she went next door and used Hotz's internet service to set up the account.
Oh, and while there, she decided to use Hotz's nickname to set up the account.

That doesn't sound like the most probable set of events to explain this.

SCEA has to prove intent.

SCEA has to prove it falls under their jurisdiction to further proceed with the trial. That's the whole point, since everything in the PS3 box points to Sony Japan and not SCEA. Sony Japan owns the product, has the rights to it, develops, updates, manufactures etc etc, not SCEA they are just a branch.

Learn to read the article.
Quote:
"When one purchases a Playstation Computer and looks at its outer box, it has plastered on numerous places that it is a product of Sony Japan and all rights belong to Sony Japan. It only references Sony Japan—not SCEA.," the document explained. "When one takes the Playstation Computer out of its box and inspects it, it states it is a product of Sony Japan and all rights belong to Sony Japan. It does not reference California. When one installs the Playstation Computer firmware update that Mr. Hotz allegedly circumvented, which can legally be obtained through the internet as Mr. Hotz did, upon installation, it only refers to Sony Japan."

The whole point of this is to say "SCEA you have no right to come after my client because Sony Japan holds all the rights to this product" that is what they are trying to prove here. If Sony Japan wants to come after him I'm sure they can/will.
