What is the best way to cool down cards in SLI ???

post #1 of 22

Hello;

I am planing to add second EVGA GTX 570 to my RIG. Recently I've spoken to some guy who has them both already connected and he said, that he's getting extremelly high temps on the card witch is closer to CPU (in slot 1) - even 98 deg. when plaing Bad Company 2 eek.gif It is because this card is taking hot air from the one below.

I definitely dont want that so I was thinking what will be the best way to cool it down. Somewere on internet I found this fan - presented on picture.
What do you think ? Mounting it between cards will be a solution ? Or maybe you have some other ideas U want to share ? Any pictures would be nice.

Best way? Go water. Otherwise get some aftermarket coolers and have some space between the cards, along with a fan blowing air in that space out the rear of the case.

No picture....

Just point any fan at the top card to supply it with fresh air.

Proper airflow.

Add a 12cm in the case for the cards.

A side window fan blowing in should be the most cost effective.
The one you had suggested would fight the stock cooler's fan. I found that even when I added a 92mm side fan in my 900 that the card's temps evened out thumb.gif
I suggest you get a CoolerMaster Sickleflow R4 fan and set it to about 50% (noise/performance prime), then place it in the side.
If a 120mm wont fit then you can always use a 92mm and place it on the bottom peg only smile.gif

Also the cooler you suggested sucks 'cool' air in from the back, but that is where your 570's are exhausting their heat, so in fact the fan's 'cool' arm will be rather warm tongue.gif

Erm, you can't SLI with your sig motherboard.

But the best ways to keep temps down with SLI or Xfire is to space the cards further, liquid cool them or add a fan to your side panel directing air onto the cards.

Water is the best way, otherwise massive amounts of airflow. I add a 120mm fan behind the cards blowing cool air on them.

One trick is to cut a 120mm hole in the bottom of your case that will pull cool air from the bottom(If PSU is not located there).
