Artic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus x2 in SLi?

Okay, so I'm ordering the last thing I've always wanted for my PC build today, my 2nd GTX580.

I know my PC can fit another 3 slot cooler GTX580 just fine, but I want to know if anyone has had experience with 2x Artic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus coolers performance with SLi?

Just wanted to see what others have gotten in temperatures with these two GPU coolers together in SLi

With MSI P67A-GD65, there will not be an empty slot between the two SLIed cards installed with Artic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus. Commenting on a theoretical level, I say there is a high chance of hot air recirculation problem because the hot air is exhausted both to the top and to the bottom. These air might be sucked back by the 3 intake fans of the nearby card. This chance is increased as there is no space between the 2 cards.

However, OCN member The-Real-Link has actual experience of GTX580 SLI with Artic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus. Even though his EVGA SR-2 would allow more space between the 2 cards, nevertheless his experience should shed light onto your question. I suppose you can PM him for his opinion.

Good luck and report back your result if you go ahead with this route.

UD3R spacing gives me a slot between the cards. To move the hot air out I have Panaflo's on the gpu duct, bottom intake, H70, and HDD cage. I had to add the fan shroud to the HDD cage fan to get enough airflow inbetween the cards, it cut the temp differential in half. In BC2 I get 56° top card, 49° bottom.

Those temps are actually better than the Reference cooler which is still a plus_ although I know mine will be a tight fit, perhaps I'll have to resort to getting another card with a 2slot thermal solution than the accelero xtreme plus.

Water cooling will be neat, but I don't find it cost effective, and knowing me I'll probably kill something watercooling it lol.

Well thanks for the information, I suppose I'll have to work out a solution, I looked at the MSi GTX580, but even with that beefy looking 2 slot cooler its still gets pretty high temps as reviewed by others so I suppose I'll order my 2nd Galaxy GTX580 and see how it goes_

I went ahead and order another Galaxy GTX580, at 499.99 -25.00 Promotional code and minus the 40dollar rebate so at aprox. 434.99 It was a steal and I couldn't pass it up so hopefully it works out good with the temps_

I'll probably try to get these two to run at 930mhz core clock =] and blow my gaming experience away <sigh> although I feel like its graphics power I would never use, but at least my build is now fully complete and I won't have to upgrade for another 5+ years_ talk about overkill o.0

Awesome, thats an amazing price. Just make sure that side fan is giving them plenty of air. IIRC Hodgoes2001 has sandwiched AXPs and he says his side fan(s) do a good job keeping them cool.

Hey Wind, thanks for the comment. To the OP, yeah it all depends on what you're running load-wise, and if you're able to space out the cards at all. I don't have anything fancy for my exhausts, but you will see the top card's temp go up by 10-15C over the AXP stock by inherently having a second card installed anywhere near the first. I have spaced mine as far as I could (SR-2 slots #1 and #7) and the temps are still getting up there with BOINC GPU computing (top card which normally would barely break 60C by itself is now closer to low 80's C, and the bottom card is in the mid-60s C). You said you have other side cooling and exhaust enhancements though so that'll probably help a bit.

I'm also "only" at 825 core on both of my cards as well. I can run 850 no problems but I've not tried to go any higher.

If you do sandwich the cards literally right next to each other, then yes, be prepared for that top card to only do slightly better than stock cooling. Even if you leave a single space, the top card will still get plenty hot but I could still do SLI at 825 core and it was stable. I suppose it all depends on how much spacing you can allow, if you prefer using SLI or not, and what cooling you have.

Keep in mind the temps I'm stating are for GPU-crunching and generally far exceed anything for gaming. A single card w/AXP won't even break 60C for me while gaming. Dual in SLI will get closer to 70C but it's fine. I don't know though what temps would be like past 900 core as I've not set them that high, sorry.

Hope the rest of this helps though.
