Sapphire 5830 HD - No Video - No POST

Thread Starter
Hello,

I am currently building a computer for a family member using parts from my previous system build. I had elected to keep my case, and to move the components over to an older case. I had installed all the part into the older case with little trouble. I hooked every thing up and turned it on.

There was no display...

I spent two hours looking around on the internet for a solution. I reseated my RAM. I rewired the system. Tried anything that I could think of, but...

there was still no display...

If anyone can give me some ideas on how I can solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Here are my system specs:

E-VGA nforce 780i sli

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale

G-Skill DDR2 800 2x4gb

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5830

Rosewill Stallion Series 500W

What code is on the led readout on the motherboard?

Hi Moshman. You could also try installing just the bare minimum components to see if it boots up. Try adding and removing components to see if you can determine what is causing this. As BIGGUN said, the led code would be helpful too.

IIRC those motherboards always used to have problems with the FF error codes. The dreaded FF normally meant you had to RMA.

Best thing to do is first try GPU in another slot.

Then remove everything. Put the mobo on a side with no case or anything. Add CPU, HSF, power leads and try it. You should get a C6? (not sure) memory error. If not you will need to RMA AFAIK.

Did you install the standoffs between case and motherboard?
Easy to forget to use these things.

Or maybe too many standoffs, so one is shorting something out?

I use to get that in my EVGA 750i. It usually means something is not connect correctly. In my case, the issue was I have to have my GPU in the top slot. Else I get FF. First, make sure every component is properly hooked and power cables properly connected. Use one stick of RAM in the 1st slot (slot closest to CPU). Put the GPU in the first PIC-e slot and try. If no go, try it in the second slot. Post back if any luck.
