And no, I'm not getting SLi or Crossfire. Those aren't an option in my case or else I would've mentioned them. Not to mention, the "outperformance" of the Sli and Crossfire is stupidly exaggerated especially in a price comparison. Not to mention if you toss in watercooling which doubles it.
I never said that. I said that a long time ago, there ceased to be any point in updating drivers for 4xxx series cards, as the drivers had already been tweaked and optimized to their peak for the 4xxx architecture, and drivers past that point were even slightly worse as ATi made slight changes (and extra bloat) for better 5xxx performance. This peak 4xxx performance driver likely happened before they stopped giving a damn about 4870x2 drivers, which is the driver which apparently borked your card. I won't comment further than this on screwing your card up, but I would think a BIOS flash would fix any issue they possibly could've caused, unless it somehow overheated some piece of hardware somehow... I'm speculating and talking outta my ass, so I'll leave it be.
Every bench I've seen puts the single GPU (in SLI/Xfire) counterparts ahead of the dual GPU, and it makes complete sense because the cards, based on their specs, essentially ARE SLI/xfire of said cards on a single card, with reduced clocks to combat the input wattage and heat. If you're watercooling though, I totally get it, as the GPUs put on the dual GPU cards are cherrypicked, and watercooling makes heat a non-issue, so they should be able to hit higher clocks than the single GPU variants.Edited by angrysasquatch - 3/28/11 at 3:14pm
