Wow. You're actually implying that the quality of the graphics has no effect on the enjoyability of the gaming experience? seriously?

Crytek just lost my respect, never buying a game from them again.

At some point it has an effect, sure. But seriously, the changes the PC gamers are asking for would be so insignificant, it really wouldn't affect the experience overall.

So you're saying that PC gamers are asking for the wrong things? What should they then be asking for, in your expert opinion as a game designer, if they wanted a game that looks and feels like a proper successor to Crysis?

Yeah so?
Crysis was ahead of its time and marketed as such. Crysis 2 was marketed as the legitimate sequel of the game but ported to console while not neglecting the PC. They definitely neglected the PC.
I don't care if that was a way for Crytek to maximise its profit. They promised us something, but lied. Period.

Are you serious?

20 years ago (I was kinda not born but whatever), I wouldn't mind 2D games because they were basically the best looking games out there.
As technology evolves, our view on games' graphics evolves as well. I thought it was obvious O_o.

Oh, and saying stuff like "i don't care about graphics gameplay is the most important!" doesn't make anyone look smarter or more mature. Graphics are part of the fun. Come on you play with your hands, ok, but also with your eyes!

I'm not a game designer, I'm a game programmer.

Again, this is just my opinion, but I feel we (as PC gamers) should be asking for games that are fun. A successor doesn't have to look better, in this case the successor runs a new multiplatform engine, enabling them to reach a larger audience and make a lot more money. Sure a few PC gamers were disappointed at the lack of something that sets a new bar for graphics, but I'm sure all of the 360 and PS3 gamers are happy be able to play Crysis now and PC gamers still got a fun game in the process. And really, the game is fun, I played through the whole thing without stopping to start at texture pixel densities or missing reflections, etc. Long story short, graphical imperfections didn't affect how fun the game was, for me.

Are you a spokesperson for Crytek or something? Every Crysis 2 thread I've lurked has you spouting random, hippie garbage, defending this game ad nauseum. When you're done with your propaganda, try to realize something: you're in the year 2011, and technology has progressed significantly since the release of original Crysis. There is absolutely NO excuse for releasing a 2007 game in 2011. I'll admit the game is a blast to play, but that's where it stops. Have you noticed there hasn't been a single game since original Crysis that made anyone go, "Wow"? That's why everyone is complaining. Remember fourteen to four years ago? Doom - wow; glQuake - wow; Quake 2 - wow; Half-Life + its derivatives - wow, all of them; Soldier of Fortune - wow; Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit - wow; Half Life 2 - wow; Far Cry - wow; Doom III - wow; etc.

We have the technology and system capabilities to see 'Realifesis' on even the most basic and mundane games - Portal for example - and yet we're stuck in the stone age because of greedy developers. Think about it this way: since 2006, there hasn't been a significant graphics quality increase in games (except for Metro and Crysis) and yet games are gradually requiring more and more powerful hardware.

If you're OK with that, then you're an idiot.

What a moronic argument. First of all, 20 years ago, all they had was 2D and 256 colors. Remember when 3D acceleration was the latest technological advancement in PC hardware? Developers didn't say, "Oh, we'll just keep using software rendering to cut back on research and save money". How about when the Geforce 3/Radeon 8500 came out? "Hurrr durrr, who needs programmable shaders, we'll just keep using vertex shaders to cut back and gain more profit". Every developer pushed to implement 3D acceleration, TnL, DirectX 6/7/8/9, etc. And now, suddenly, everyone stopped keeping their software up to the respective hardware. Why? Because every single multi-platform developers saw a colossal cash cow in console gaming and became greedy.

Again, if you're OK with that, you're an idiot.

I'm a PC game developer (not for Crytek), who is tired of hearing people whine about graphic quality being a main reason not to buy a game. Crysis 1 looked spectacular, so by extension Crysis 2 is then required to do the same to even be considered a good game? But I'm sure you guys will be fine playing Portal 2, which won't be known for its graphics, but will be fun. Two games, both fun, both with developers that didn't aim for graphic perfection. One PC gamers will whine about, the other they won't. What's the difference?
