[VGHQ] Crysis 2 Textures Are 1/2 Size of Crysis 1 - Page 17

  • Loved the campaign for the game itself - no I didnt like it if I were to consider it a sequel or next generation Crysis game in the series release
  • Crytek made a name for themselves of being the elite game company in terms of pushing hardware to its limits - this is why most of us PC gamers are so upset with this release - I agree, the graphics suck if we are to consider this a "next gen" in the Crysis series. It does suck compared to Crysis 1.
  • Was VERY upset over the minimal or lack of eye candy that we all expected for the PC enthusiast community
  • One reason for this years upgrade was to experience the "next generation" of Crysis in the same "WOWOMFG" fashion Crysis 1 gave me 3 years ago, but this time I wanted to be the one owning the game and not the other way around.
  • Was very upset to see the lack of PC based controls
  • Was not happy about lost controls such as prone, grenade throws as a mapable key, and the list goes on. Basically they reduced the mapable controls b/c of the minimal options consoles have to map to a controller - this is obvious
  • Was very let down not to get the "game" I expected in terms of visuals - and yes, visuals is why the PC games are so much better and why we exthusiasts demand higher quality eye candy then the run and gun console gamers who do not care about the views as much because they are used to dumbded down graphics
  • A lot of other views, comments and reduced excitement over this game, but I think most others have had it said already

My know it all mate asked mate, why do you play PC games, i hate the graphics on PC, they are not as good. I just lol'ed so hard in his face and said, if anything, people like you are the reason why PC is not at it's best. All day he was trying to figure out what i ment. Anyway i shown him my little trick with the pictures and he was shocked! I don't think he will turn his xbox on ever again. I tend to have that effect on people.

This is why the crysis series should NOT have been a console franchise..... It made Crytek lazy.

Seems you're good at spreading misinformation then. Crysis 1 was PC-only, and if you've seen Crysis 2, it puts that screenshot on the left to shame. PC gamers really need to quit acting like they're somehow more important than console gamers. Sure PCs will always look better, but it's not as bad as you're making it out to be.

I had a massive post mostly on how they should have made large textures for PC, then just downsized them for consoles, but I deleted it because I remembered that no, graphics do not and should not have anything to do with the enjoyability of the gameplay experience, the visual style alone should.

Minecraft: 16x16 textures stock, still fun and enough to let Mojang beat multiple studios, including Valve and Bioware, to get to the finals in TheEscapists best game dev thing and looking like they're gonna take the finals too.
Crysis 1: The best graphics of any PC game, great visual style. Gameplay not so fun, story not so good.

Crysis 1 looked spectacular, so by extension Crysis 2 is then required to do the same to even be considered a good game? But I'm sure you guys will be fine playing Portal 2, which won't be known for its graphics, but will be fun. Two games, both fun, both with developers that didn't aim for graphic perfection. One PC gamers will whine about, the other they won't. What's the difference?
The difference here is that Portal has such a good visual style, Valve can cut back on stuff like texture sizes, etc without it being noticeable, mainly due to you being inside smaller environments, the drawback is even if you used massive textures, etc, only eyefinity/3D surround users would notice it.

And the other difference here is that Crysis 1 in a lot of peoples views only really had the graphics going for it, Crysis 2 doesn't even have that.

A better example is ME2, even at 1080p it still renders at 720p or something, yet a lot of people love it.

I'm not sure about anyone else, but the majority of people I encounter on Xbox Live seem to be too young to have dropped balls.

Not that I expect half the people saying "CRYSIS 2 IS A PORT" could say they're much better off..

Actually, for a lot of companies its more or less not "Will go bankrupt" it's "Will not make multiple millions of dollars worth of profit"

Example being Activision.

This, there's a difference between short/mid term profit and long term profit, Valve may not make as much as Activision do, but they can depend on that profit whereas Activision's market has practically no loyalty, they'll defend it in fanboy fights to the death but as soon as something better comes out, they'll move on, Valve know that if they release quality, then people stay and stay for a long time.

Comparing them, once again, is easy, on both PC and console I always demo games from EA, Activision, etc in whichever way I can, but Valve, Bethesda, Blizzard (ActiBlizzard, I know) and a few other devs I know I can trust to always make a good game, so usually I buy without trying it first, as do a lot of people I know.

That looks fine, but it's blatantly obvious that it was released 9 years ago. I'm sorry but if you think that looks better than newer games, you're lying to yourself.

Honestly, we need a game developer section here at OCN, where all of ignorant PC gamers can come read-up on how game development works. This question has been answered already in different threads, and already in this thread.

Ignorant PC gamer. Everytime a PC game is released OCN tests my patience to even hang around on these forums. It's difficult listening to all of the idiots bash developers for things they really have no understanding of. And I'm seriously outnumbered on OCN, the whole place is crawling with PC gamer elitists that all have a sense of entitlement, that every game should be the best at everything or it sucks and the developers that made it were lazy or just don't care about them.
One thing i've noticed in the last year or two, especially on this forum, if a game wasn't released by valve or have the name "battlefield" in it, it is often not given any respect or deemed simply as a "console" port.

as to why valve games and battlefield are deemed the holy grail of pc gaming, i fear i will never know, as valve has never released a title i enjoyed playing and as for the battlefield series, meh.

i understand the points you are trying make lordikon, but you are asking way to much for this jump on the bandwagon crowd to grasp or even understand, no matter what it is, they same nonsense and immaturity will spew from their keyboards and mouths each and everytime a game is released, we either deal with it, or find other areas that we can move into on this forum and appreciate the level of intelligence there.
