What makes you say that?

Given Crytek hasnt even commented on the claims or made any statements regarding a texture pack, I dont find your suggestion to be likely at all.

I'm sure if Crysis 1 had been ported to the console back then too, then they would've nerfed its textures just the same.

The game is buggy as hell at least in SP. Crysis v1.2 its much more stable. I 15% through the game and each time i am low heath and use different guns some of the post image gets stuck, sometimes cant use melee attacks. Some AI are stuck. The MP is very fun but as a single player its does not give you the same thing Far Cry, Crysis did. You dont stop to look around, you just want to finish the dam game.

Well, this gives them the headroom to do such a thing, and everyone knows that DX11 is coming to the game, so it would seem like the perfect opportunity to do such a thing... However, ultimately it is dependant on whether or Crytek wishes to do such a thing or not, so only time will tell. It would be so much nicer though if they did include (or at least offer) an upgraded texture pack... If they don't, then hopefully someone will, because Crysis 2 is pretty fun game, and I wouldn't mind playing it again with higher resolution textures

They should have released the entire PC game...on release day. Imagine other industries pulling this. Here's your brand new 2011 Honda Civic! We haven't fit it with a transmission yet, but will one day in the near future. You really should buy this half of the car now though, for full price. We'll let you have the rest of it when we are done building and designing it.

They didn't have to nerf any textures, just make high res textures to begin with (apparently, just reuse Crysis 1 texture where possible even), and half their size and res when doing the console version. Batch image file resizing, convert to *.dds, done. High and low res textures.

For Game textures, unless it's done shoddy, you cannot just replace textures without alot of forethought, especially in a high quality environment.

Any texture may have:
-Base Texture
-Normal Map
-Lightmap
-Diffuse settings
-Alpha channel
-UV settings
-Transparency etc
-lots more etc

And a typical level can have many hundreds of textures, and a game itself thousands easily.

Now we assume Crytec is world class and houses their Textures by a Hierarchy - for example

In Source System...Dev environment:
Textures Folders for:
Level : ...
Indoor: Class : type : Size :
Outdoor : Class : type : Size :
Buildings : ...
Roads :...
Vehicles :...
NPCs :...
Props :....
Weapons :...
Armor :...
Lighting :...
Menu :...

My point is that it is not trivial to upgrade textures unless exacting specs and standards are followed from the start of the dev process. Namely there already better be a Higher res Texture in the same folder as the one used in Game.

Alpha/Normal/specularity/transparency maps and tools have to be setup beforehand to easily replace a texture with another in a "Batch process" otherwise it has to be done one by one, setting by setting, and for a production Retail GAME this is a huge undertaking by the Art dept.

Again I assume Crytek is top notch and has the capability to swap in higher textures by a batch process, and has above normal standards in a production house. It's just we don't know if they have setup their environment to support it for this PC Crysis 2, and or are willing to give this option to PC players any time soon making a "Better looking " game than the console ports.

It might make some console companies mad...$$

I THOUGHT the textures looked rather bland. Concrete doesn't look so good either seeing as your in New York it should. High Res Texture Pack PLZ!!!!
