MOSFET cooling

I was researching overclocking earlier and read that the mostherboard's "MOSFETs" can get very hot or even burn out while overclocking.

Would applying heat sinks to these for cooling be beneficial? Something like these?

And where would you place them? Looking at my motherboard (ASUS P8P67 Pro) I see several things that I think could be the MOSFETs.



I highlighted in red what I thought the MOSFETs might be.


So, are MOSFETs worth cooling? And if so, where on my motherboard are they, and how should I cool them?

The MOSFETs are actually already under the blue heatsinks around the CPU socket.

MOSFETs are not what you circled. The two heatsink around the CPU socket is where the voltage regulators are located. I added mine to the water loop along with the NB and SB.

The word your looking for when referring to the circled items is IC's or integrated circuits.

That sounds sweet. So you have your CPU, both chipsets and the MOSFETs all cooled on the same water loop? How hard is a water cooling system like that to install? Did you have to remove the stock heatsinks on the chipsets?

Every component that is watercooled needs its own special-purpose block, which typically replaces whatever stock heatsink is already there.

you do not need to cool MOSFETs, its actually kind of a gimmick, there is no need to cool them down as their temp threshold is abut 120C give or take a few C depending on model and type.

Of course it looks nice to have heatsinks, and yea nothing you circled are MOSFETs. In green i circled the MOSFETs not heatsinked:

Yup all under the RS360. It was my first water loop and it was fairly easy. Just take your time planning ahead and make sure to test for at least 8 hours (or overnight) for leaks before turning the rig on.

Yup the stock heatsink had to be removed, in my case it was all connected so I had no choice really, unless I wanted to purchase a separate heatsink for the MOFSET which would end up costing as much a water block anyway.

The only reason why I added the motherboard chipsets to the loop was because my NB temps would sky rocket to 70C when overclocked passed 4ghz.

Now my cpu doesn't go over 48C and NB over 55C, and that's the highest. I usually see around 40C and 48C respectively. My rig has been folding under 100% load for 4 days straight now as well.
