First Time Case Paint

Hey All,

I was recently inspired to attempt to mod a case as a summer project. I'm looking to mod a small tower case.

First, I wanted a case that didn't have a plastic front so that it could be painted uniformly. Here is the one that I'm pretty well set on:
http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product...s_index=63&g=f

I was sort of inspired by this paint job:
http://www.mnpctech.3dpixelnet.com/p...odmenshow1.jpg

I'd like to do a metallic looking yellow, with two thick black stripes. I'd probably also like to paint the inside black. To paint the above case, they used this: http://www.plastikote.com/products/S...tal-Flake.html with a clear coat after. They don't carry a yellow version of that paint though, any other suggestions that would produce a similar effect?

The other thing that I'd like to do is cut a window into the side, nothing too fancy though. Other than that, one thing that i see being a problem is the grips on the bottom of the case, I believe they're glued on.

Please let me know what you guys think, any advice/suggestions are welcome. This is my first time painting or cutting anything really, so anything will help.

Thanks!

Advice:
1. Keep fingers out of the way when cutting.
2. Don't touch the paint until its dry.

Learned a few things purely by accident when I was painting a case lol

Wait twice the recommended drying time to be sure lol I was impatient and ruined the paint even though the paint should have been dry 2 days before hand.

Be sure that the painted pieces can be left where they were painted. Its a pain to move stuff thats got wet paint on it without ruining them.

Apply a primer coat before painting (Let it dry before adding the main colour) and add a coat of clear coat after the main coat of paint has dried.

Spray from left to right or right to left, do not spray both ways. Makes a more even coat.

Apply several thin coats of the main colour so you can slowly build it up, this will give a better finish and an even spread of paint. (Let each individual coat dry before applying the next)

Ive only painted one case but this is mainly what I should have done and know to do the next time lol

Thanks so much! What is the reasoning for the bright red as a base coat? Could you recommend some specific paint products? I've never painted aluminum before (or any metal for that matter), so I really don't know where to start (in order to get a shiny/polished appearance).

I've taken a look at that guide, but is that ok to follow for an aluminum case?

Yep same process can also be used on plastic parts.

The brushed aluminum finish will be a bit different then finishing bare metal. You could probably wipe it with wil-bond and it would be fine.
