GTX 580 Choices...

Thread Starter
I am looking for a GTX 580 Graphics Card and have narrowed it down to two:

- MSI GeForce GTX580 1536 MB DDR5 2DVI/Mini HDMI PCI-Express Video Card N580GTX TWIN FROZR II/OC

or

- Galaxy 58NLH5HS3PXZ GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

I am leaning more towards the MSI one cause I always hear great things about the Twin Frozen line but the price of the Galaxy one is very enticing.

Which would you choose and why?

Twin Frozr is one of the best aftermarket coolers available atm. MSI also has a longer 3 year warranty based solely on the serial number, meaning you'll have a much easier time reselling if you choose to down the road.

IMO MSI wins hands down.

I'll stick to your post question and between the two you mentioned, MSI Twin Frozr II.

I owned an AMD 6870 Twin Frozr II and it was a great card for over clocking. It's military grade capacitors are quality build on a pcb and non-reference cooling is the best. Just make sure you have a well ventilated tower as the heat does go inside your case over being directed out the back exhuast flow bracket.

This, i would opt for the MSI over the galaxy.

if ya plan to go sli one day take the 3gb versin.. and if that, maybe wait some more weeks until the prices are a lil bit lower.. goodluck

edit: if you are not 100% sure you want a 580 maybe think about two 6970 on crossfire for almost the same money..

I would take the Galaxy because it has an Accelero XTREME Plus cooler. Its a 3 slot card so make sure you have plenty of room if you decide to get it.

I would go the MSI route myself! Have not heard good things about Galaxys support.

Always had luck with MSIs products!

I am not opposed to other cards although I would like to keep it to one card but not necessary (as long as my Corsair 750 Watt PSU can keep up). Keep the suggestions coming.

Is the 3GB GTX 580 Version worth the upgrade?

What about the Asus Direct CU II?

It's been shown in reviews to hit the top end of overclocks and the 3 slot cooler is very effective (which is why I went this route).

It's also one of the cheapest 580's out (no idea why though).

Shamino got some crazy overclocks on the card under LN2 as well.

"Is the 3GB GTX 580 Version worth the upgrade?"

not yet..(just at 3xxx X 2xxx resolutions or with ultratexture mods/ with downsampling) but if you plan to keep the card some yrs AND go SLI then id definetily rec. a 3gb version, u wont regret it then ( with SLI ) ..
