Sell my I7-870 or i7-950 for a 2600K ?

Thread Starter
Which one should I sell ? I want to try the new i7-2600k but I want to keep one of these for some time for my son to use for music production. I am sure either one would do just fine. On air I have the 870 only over-clocked to 3.8 on an ASUS P7P55D Deluxe . It was my first real OC. Ftr the 1366 chip I had problems with my Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R which I had to get a replacement mobo so I have not tried to OC the 950 yet. But need to sell one of these. What do you think ?

Also should I sell the processor and mobo individually on E-bay or as a combo ? Which way do you think I would get more ?

Well... You should sell the 870, the 950 is more powerful.

You would get more money if you sold the CPU and mobo separately but you would be able to sell it faster if you did a combo deal.

This!

and your price point of course will determine how fast you wish to sell it. I'd say post in the appraisal section for price ranges

Don't think neither you nor the OP can post there quite yet .

I suppose I would sell the 870 if I could get a similar price. But I also suppose I wouldn't waste time and money upgrading from 1366 to the current SB when Ivy is on the horizon, but that's just me.

I would sell them separately, but it's probably a little more of a pain in the ass that way.

I'd sell the 950 and keep the 870.

Thanks for all your input. I put the i7-950 up on E-bay for sale. I used it for 2 months until I got the 970.

Is the 970 a hexacore?

Yes the i7-970 is a hexcore. I have not tried to overclock it. Just screams as it is right now.

Just thought I'd add, or rather second what Plex said in suggesting you wait for Ivy as that will be a more noticeable upgrade.

Whitehawk, how do you like your 2600K on your mobo ? That mobo is what I thought about getting. I am also looking at the hard to find Rampage 1155 but it is like $100 more. Not sure if it is worth it. Also not sure when Ivy is coming out so I am itching to play now.
