Help me get my laptop back!!!

Thread Starter
So a long time ago, well more like a month ago I have given my laptop to my father. He has recently moved out after many years of relationship difficulties with my mother and even though he and my mom oppose each other, he's still my dad and I didn't want to leave him empty handed in his new nearby apartment.

My dad loves to play backgammon. He said he plays it soo much that he stays on his laptop for a hour or so every dat after work playing online backgammon on windows 7.
But recently, after giving him my laptop thinking I will be using my rig for everything, I have grown the need to use a laptop for daily typing or web surfing when I'm not behind a desk.

The laptop I gave him is a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It had a Dual core Intel Pentium 4 T4400. It had 3 Gb of VRAM and even though it had integrated intel X4500mhd graphics, I could watch 1080p and play a little bit of League of Legends. It had a really good looking and bright 15.6" LED LCD, a screen that I bought from ebay to replace the original broken one.

Since my dad is doing nothing but playing backgammon, I though I could give him a laptop that will still suite his needs to get my awesome dell back and use its full potential! This it what he does with the laptop:
1. Surf the web, check ESPN scores, yahoo, and all that stuff. No pr0n (I checked, this man doesn't even know what web history is XD)
2. Watch a few moves I put on the laptop on his LCD TV through VGA
3. BACKGAMMON!!!!!

So guys, here is what I am looking for, I am in need of a cheap laptop that can do the simplest tasks but still run windows 7 and allow him to watch at least 720p movies with no lag. Thats it! I do prefer it to be used and its okay if it comes with something like 512mb ram, I have a bunch of DDR2 ram sticks. Preferably not a netbook, as the small screen may be a problem. The laptop can have a broken IDE or SATA HDD as a l have a lot of those too.
My budget is around $150, but I would like the laptop to be as cheap as it can be, as long as it runs windows 7

I am very curious to see what you guys can find. I do accept ebay and all other sources.

I can't really enter on ebay or other sites (MB-capped) but I could give you a few pointers:
*you don't have a Pentium 4, but a Pentium DC; this is very important as a Pentium 4 is ancient and very weak as a CPU by post 2005 standards.
*you should get him a dual core CPU as real 720p needs quite some horsepower. Of course a Brazos e350 could do these tasks due to its awesome igp, but they haven't gotten down to 150$ yet.
*your best chance: Celeron T1400 and better, Pentium T2060 and better and any AMD dual core processor (Turion X2, Athlon X2, Athlon II X2, etc)
*you need 1GB RAM or more if it's 64bit, 512 is too little for 7 (tried it)

What you could look for is ebay and restrict search to laptops that have one of the processor models written above. In Europe you can find this kind of lappy for 150-200€ second hand.

Good luck

Look for a desktop, if you troll craigslist you might be able to get a complete system and even an LCD, I've seen it happen before. $150 is not a lot of money. If you can find a decent replacement that is great, but you should also consider the lack of respect you may be showing your dad by gifting him a laptop and then taking it back. It sounds like he is already going through a rough time. It may be better to wait for now.

Try ebay but I doubt there's anything worth/reliable that can run 720p at $150. Raise it a bit and get him something like this $300 15 incher

edit: Gift him a new laptop and that will make him happy, especially in this kind of time

I totally get what your saying but believe it or not he actually preferred I get him something slower/cheaper. He is not one of those guys that prefer an android over a cheap nokia. He told me, as long as he can do what he does with this laptop its going to be perfectly fine.
