If you're still using XP then you shouldn't even be calling yourself an overclocker.

XP is already EOL for SP1 and SP2, SP3 will be EOL in 2014, should have been 2012 but they extended which i think is a big mistake, if corporations and consumers haven't changed to Windows 7 by now then they deserve to be left behind.

In my line of work i still see people trying to use windows 98 machines with cable internet......After 2 years i came to the conclusion that my own generation is still living in the past, they go by what there fathers grew up with which is that things are built to last, well that is not and never will be the case with anything electronic.

PC's have a life span of about 5 years and that truly depends on the hardware, if you game alot most likely within that 5 years you will need to upgrade the GPU at least once.

Did you even read the big black text on the second line of the first post?

maybe in a PC application. I cant tell how long it would take my macbook to boot on a conventional BIOS, but it "POSTs" significantly faster than my desktop (listed in my other systems) which has to initialize AHCI controllers and what not.

I'll wait till UEFI becomes mainstream before building my next system.

I have 10.6.6 as a virtual OS and I haven't found a way to really enjoy using it, sure it looks nice and all but I can't find a good reason to use it as my main rig yet.

I rather want UEFI than a patch for 3TB+.

As far as 10.6.6, it would be hard finding reasons to choose it over win 7 especially if one is accustomed to the interface on windows 7. Basically if you want to do things like movie or audio editing using Mac only software then there's your answer. But basic day to day it's hard to justify a switchover. There are other facets like backup/recovery of OS X that has an advantage over Windows, which is why I preferred it as a student and recommend it to college students. Time machine is fairly good as a built in piece of software.

Intel Macs are flexible enough to boot from more or less any other hard drive equipped with the latest OS X revision (driver issues, more than anything).

I use it anyway as my primary OS in the field even though I work as a field techie working in a 99% windows environment. Only reason i virtualize/bootcamp is to game and access our web CRM which requires ActiveX. But i digress.

(btw it's against TOS to discuss hackintoshes. Virtualbox does not support nor condone the use of OS X in it's VM software. You'd also encounter issues using it via VM that you would not have running natively on hw.)

edit: i'm also toying with the idea of developing iOS apps. This is just an idea and dont have too much real programming experience other than RobotC and java which I dont even remember. You can only develop in OS X as far as i can tell.

Why don't they just hurry up and release their UEFI for their boards?
