Asus P8P67 Boot Issues

Thread Starter
I am helping a friend with his new 2500K build and have come across a frustrating issue as I have no experience with the new UEFI BIOS of these boards. He's just finished up the build process and booting up and we're getting a 'Cannot detect hard drive' message. In the BIOS I noticed that both the hard drive (a 2TB Caviar green) and a normal DVD burner are both detected. Under EZ mode, I have changed the boot priority to the DVD drive first to install Windows. This seemingly easy procedure has turned into a nightmare as we are recieving the message "Reboot and select proper boot device".

I have tried changing SATA config from AHCI to IDE, disabling the onboard Marvell and JBM controllers, and swapping SATA cables and ports.

I would appreciate some help with this matter as it is frustrating seeing my friend with his build all ready to go but unable to install Windows.

Thanks in advance.

Switch to advanced mode and change boot priorities there.

Sorry forgot to mention that I've already changed the priorities under the Boot tab in Advanced mode. Everything that I've done previously has resulted in the boot device not found error.

I had a similar problem with my p8p67 build but I am using a ssd though so I'm not sure it will help. It was a very similar error message though.
In the EZ mode at the bottom where boot priority is, is my ssd, dvd and a hard drive icon with uefi labeled across the top. Win7 would only boot if the UEFI one was priority.

I dunno what it means but it worked for me. Hopefully it helps you as well!

I'm not sure if this applies to only one HDD available, but not only do you have to change the "boot order" (as in 1st boot device, second boot device, etc), but you also have to rearrange the drives in order that you want them to appear to the operating system. For example, if your boot drive is a 500 GB drive, and you had a 1 TB and a 2 TB drive that you wanted as D: and E: drive, you would have to drag the drive order so the 500 GB drive is on top, the 1 TB next to it, and the 2 TB right under.

This is also how you make a USB flash drive boot (that has been formatted as bootable). You have to move the drive up to the top.

The "Boot order" menu only tells the computer what order to search for bootable devices first, like, if you wanted to boot from a DVD instead of a USB flashdrive, assuming you had them both plugged in.

As far as AHCI or "SATA IDE", no experience with that...

Just to make this clear, both the single hard drive and optical drive are detected in the BIOS, but no matter how I configure the boot order, I receive the message "Reboot and select proper boot device". This makes me believe that the issue is somewhere in the BIOS- I'm just not sure where.

Hey man, were you ever able to figure this out? I'm having the same problem with the same board. Any help you could give me would be much appreciated. It's been 4 months so I'm hoping you got it fixed
