[Windows 7] v7 GPU Folding Guide

Thread Starter

GPU Detection - Those using Fermi with non Fermi cards be warned it is buggy and may not work properly.
If you want to use the new client, keep your GPU2 clients on hand, more info on the problem here.

This guide is to setup the v7 client from scratch using the GPU method.
If you already installed it using the SMP mode and wish to add GPUs go to the 2nd post (here) for a small explanation on how to add more folding slots.

What you need....

1. V7 client, download links.

2. [OUTDATED] HFM - Optional but highly recommended. - Guide
(Direct download)

3. A CUDA supported nVidia GPU (8000 series or newer), with the latest drivers.
An AMD 5 series GPU or newer, with Catalyst 11.1 or newer.

Basic GPU setup

How to video here.

1) Run the install file for the Folding client.

When prompted, choose "Custom install" then select "Install just for me"

2) Now, install the client to the default location, but in the next option save the Data Folder to C:\\Program Files (x86)\\FAHClient\\Data

A warning will appear, just ignore it and click Ok.

3) Following screen select Next and leave everything at the default recommended settings.

4) Next, you reach the initial configuration screen. Enter the following:

• Donor: OCNChimpin (Check here to see if your preferred name is in use.)
• Team: 37726
• Passkey: Leave blank
• Preferred Mode: GPU

5) You are now done installing the clients and now folding!
All your GPUs will be automatically added

Extra Information

How to get the new Fahcore16 - Advance/Expert mode required
ATI/AMD 5xxx & 6xxx series only!

Doing this does not stop old core11 units from downloading and folding, it only gives you access to the new units.

If in the middle of a work unit, right-click finish then wait for it to complete.
Once it is finished, then follow the instructions

1) Click the "Configure" button in the top left, and go to the slots tab.

2) Highlight the "gpu" slot, and click "Edit"

]

3) At the bottom, under "Extra slot options (expert only), click "Add". Enter the following:

Name: client-type
Value: advanced

4) Restart your folding slot by right-clicking it and choosing "Fold".

Advance & Expert mode
This will show you more info on your clients, including PPD.

1) In the dropdown box change Novice to Expert.

2) For detailed information on the client go here. (will be updated)

Top Menu Bar

Configure & Prefrences - Advanced options (A guide will be posted soon)

Applies to all clients
Fold - Resume/starts all clients
Pause - Pauses all clients
Finish - Will complete all units then pause all clients

Viewer - 3d rendering (may lower performance & PPD)

Hide & Quit - Hide will minimize to systray and Quit will exit the client.
Closing it by clicking the [X] in the top right corner will also minimize it to the systray.

How to remove and add new GPU clients
Must be in Advanced or Expert mode

1) Go to Configure in top left.

2) In the tabs, select Slots.

3.a) Highlight the client you wish to delete and click Remove.
(To add a client jump to next step)

3.b) Click the Add button.

3.c) Select the third option marked GPU and leave the ID -1 for automatic detection.

4.) Press Ok then Save, till you are back till the main window.

I was thinking about doing it myself and undermining you two.
Did you get your problem solved? I had seen your post on the F@H forums.

My guides were made a while ago, posting the SMP in a sec once I clean them up before I move them to the public.

lol, well the client has been up for ~2 hours. I didn't see you around, in that time. I could have had them finished already. Both GPU & SMP. haha.

need to add to get work for ati cards you need to add name= client-type value= beta under configure and each slot for a ati 5xxx+ card.
