What do you look for in a case? - Page 2

- PSU on the bottom.
- Lots of fan mounts.
- Solid construction, normally steel.
- HDD space.
- Well thought out cable management.

Black Interior
1. Easily removable and washable dust filters on ALL intake areas including PSU intake fan area.

2. Support for at least 5 fans. Preferably including 1 20mm fan for either exhaust or intake. Preferably 120mm fans. If not then 140mm fans. I don't like anything smaller than 120mm.

3. Bottom mounting PSU with hole for outside intake.

4. A window.

5. Removable HDD bay for larger graphics cards.

6. Led fans.

7. Black interior.

These are not in order. A screwless/tooless design isn't important to me.

What I look for:
  1. Solid Construction (Aluminum or Steel, no plastic)
  2. Great AirFlow - Equal static pressure (vent on top, 120mm fan options)
  3. Movable HD cages (oriented towards panel for ease of access and swapping)
  4. Tool less design (thumb screws are fine)
  5. Great cable management
  6. Easy to access dust filters on all intake fans
  7. No sharp edges
  8. CPU backplate hole on Mobo for mounting coolers
  9. Optional top panels for water cooling
  10. Noise dampening such as rubber grommets and stands
  11. If the inside is to be painted it would be nice to be powder coat or a little more scratch resistant.
  12. Minimalistic look (i.e. Lian Li, Fractal Design, Corsair 700/800D)
  13. A great price

As far as MoBo orientation I like what Silverstone has done with the 90 degree angled boards, but it is incomplete. Cable management could be better. I hate looking at unsleeved cords on a black interior with the included fans. They made the space tight in wrong areas such as hd bay and optical drives. Plus they would do better to have a second 120mm fan up top (or at least 80mm) directly above the GPU. I could see air getting trapped up top with only one fan. The side panels need to be more easily accessible such as what the 700/800D cases incorporate with the release button on the back. The top panel could also be a bit easier to remove. Silverstone seriously needs to solve optical bay issues though.

Lastly, if you think you can make a sweet case according to what I consider great along with a great price PM me and let me know.

I look for Lian Li

A good case in my opinion needs to look presentable without being overly plasticy or flashy (think Lian Li/Silverstone/Fractal Design). Good airflow is a must, if I can't feel air flowing when I stick my hand towards the middle of the interior(away from any fans) then there is a problem. Another must for me is cable management. Space behind the motherboard tray, holes w/ grommets, and bottom mounted psu are all things that I like to see when looking for a case. Interior color isn't a big deal as long as it isn't bright red or something to that effect. I am probably forgetting stuff, but this is just what I can think of off the top of my head.

My prefs:
-Black interior
-Tool-free drive installation
-Fan mounts that will accomodate various sizes
-Separation of board and PSU
-Integrated vidcard supports
-Grill mesh bay covers (not solid)

Basically, all the things that come standard in lots of cases these days.

Thanks everyone! once again very helpful.. looks like theres a large emphisis on air cooling/ air flow along with cable management. Most likely, we would be using a steel frame along with some aluminum with a minimalistic design. I guess ill have to show them some more of these ideas, and see where to go from there with maybe some renderings/digital mock ups

Hey all just put an update, after some talk we decided to come up with a proposal design. So looking for your thoughts of what we came up with! But instead of coming up with a definitive decision if this is going to happen or not, the project is going to be done in steps and we are just going to look at the feasibility at each step baby steps?
