What do you look for in a case? - Page 3

1) Fairly quiet...and cool

2) Standard fan sizes...and additional fan mounting locations.

3) Either no fan LEDs or a switch to turn them off.

4) Removable drive trays...since I won't be putting in 8 drives and would rather have airflow

5) Clean simple lines *and* curves...so it doesn't look like a glowing dragon *or* a box designed in 1995. Lack of curves (e.g., 650D, 800D, most things by Lian Li) looks too harsh (and dated) for my tastes.

6) Subtle branding...preferably something that you cannot even notice.

7) Decent space behind MB for cabling

Basically, I am looking for this: http://www.fractal-design.com/?view=product&prod=57

...which isn't available and has not been tested/reviewed...so I continue to search while I wait.

cheers,
SS

- it must be a full tower, or a big mid tower that can fit large motherboards, video cards and cpu coolers.

- it must have good cooling.

- i prefer it look real pretty, not an absolute necessity though.

- good cable management options.

- subtle branding. i don't like logos and such all over.

for my main rig, i'm looking for a simple/elegant styling
if this is more of a dream case wish list: xl-atx/hptx compatible(or optional upgrades), can take to two 120.4 rads(push/pull with shrouds) with on the bottom, hold four 3.5" drives and two 2.5" drives and three to four 5.25" drives bays, maybe a removable motherboard
tray, but if it's removable MB tray or one of the other features not including it is welcome especially if the non-removable one have the cutout for changing the mounting brackets

i've done a bit of goofing around seeing how big a case would have to be to have all of those features,
12" wide(psu mounted behind the motherboard around the espansion slots and still have the ability to mount 7" tall cpu coolers)

by 23" tall(allows rad plus fans configurations up to 8" tall, and still maintaining four 5.25" drive bays with maybe mount an additional one or two vertically for a fan controller or temp read out bay cover, and have the 3.5" drive bays lined up on their side across the front of the case, you might be able to fit eight+ 3.5" drives and mount the 2.5" bays along the top or bottom of the 3.5" bays)

by 23" long(to allow for the 120.4 rads and drive bays plus long video cards, or hptx board(15" long) plus 8" of clearance for the 5.25" drive bays)

that would be an ideal case, but if i want it i'll end up having to make it since the market for such a case is extremely limited, and only boutique case manufactures would make it and charge $400+, which wouldn't be a problem if all of the parts were aluminum and powder coated black

Air, room to work with, and air.

Space. I used to have a mid-tower case, tidy enough but everything was pretty jammed.

I have managed to make my HAF X look anti-spacious, I would happily have a bigger HAF X!!

I love having the space though, it makes everything look so much tidier and impressive, having more room to do stuff is what it's all about, not being restricted by case size. dual 6990's? yeah I got the space for that, triple rad, I can do that etc

When I first saw this thread I had to think on it for a bit, but here it is.

First and most important I HATE case's that use anything other than 120mm fans. I dont mind multi size fan brackets aslong as one of the size's is 120. There arnt enough options in 80/92/140/160(i know its an odd one) and 200mm fans. With 120mm fan locations you can have the best set up, be it massive air flow or silent operation!

Next Dust controll!! if it has mesh, it better be filtered in some way shape or form, cant stand the free flow designs that dont add some kind of filter.

bottom mount PSU. I like the PSU there. Thank the computer building gods this is standerd in todays world a second part of this is the ability to mount the PSU upside down. This is an easy mod but I like to see it.

My antec 902, and my CM690IIAD both had a nifty little feature of adding a fan on the back of the HDD tray. I have found that this fan and a fan on the side pannel are great when used in tandem for haveing a dual airzone set up and keeping the GPU nice and cool.

This one goes with the HDD cage fan and the first one of non "Standerd" fans. I like having 2 fans at the top of the case. I block the rear most slot, and use the front most slot as an intake, providing super duper cooling ability(Thank you Ehume)

Also if the case has a side window, the inside's must be painted to match...or at least black.

Also a feature I have just gotten to mess with in the CM690IIAD that I have fallen in love with is when the hard drive bays are turned 90 degree's. this helps 10 fold on wire management!!

I perfer to see a case come with a 5.25 to 3.5 addapter, rather than a 3.5 only bay...but now im just nitt picking

HD audio compadible headphone jack!! I have fallen in love playing B:BC2 with 3d sound headphone's!!

Not to flashy of a design...Dont get me wrong I dont want just a bland cube but I also dont need somthing like the sunbeam transformer sitting on my desk lol.

And lastly I like have more fan locations than are truly needed. I wont fill them all, but I like options!!

There is the list of things that prompted me to drop the Antec902 for a case half its price
