TRI SLI 470's & i7 950 at 4.2 upgrade psu?

Thread Starter
well i had a questions do you guys think i need a bigger PSU i have 2 SSD drive, 3 HDD, blueray bruner, 8 fan total 1 230mm, 3 200mm, 3 120mm and 1 140mm. i7 950 oc at 4.2ghz and tri sli 470's at usllay 650mhz to 750mhz. So i have an corsair TX 850 now, which i have read that at peak 3 sli takes about 794 with a i7 965. Any thoughts? Possible looking at these now to up grade it to Antec TPQ-1200 or CORSAIR HX 1000 . Also don't need Modular and not too much more then 200 bucks!

Although guru3d's figure of 792W is power pulled out of the wall socket, I still think it is getting uncomfortably close to limit of a Corsair TX850, especially your GTX470s will be overclocked + your having a more-than-average numbers of fans and HDD/SDDs + your TX850 only having four 6(+2)-pin PCIe connectors (vs you need a total of six for three GTX470s).

Adding all these factors together, I think it is wise to use a higher power PSU.
Considering your budget, both Corsair HX1000 and Antec TPQ-1200 will get the job done. And as you do not need modular feature, perhaps go with the Antec to save a few bucks.

Review of the Antec TPQ-1200:

Your TX850 is fine, just don't go running Furmark and LinX together for long periods of time.
