ive only had my gtx560 for a week, and its time for a new card... =(

Thread Starter
i just started playing NFS shift2 unleashed, and im getting an average fps of 63, which isnt bad, but it'll only get worse as new games come out. i was recently playing dirt 2, and i was getting 91fps in that. but in a month or so when dirt 3 comes out, im sure its going to be even more demanding... and playing that game at 30-40fps just wont cut it. fast paced racing games need to be smooth.

sticking with the nvidia family, would it be worth it to get a better card, or should i just sli some 560's?

btw, all the games mentioned, im playing at max everything.

I would consider SLI before selling and trading up, your only options would be 570 or 580 which is a pretty decent price jump.

OC it perhaps?

Also if you are getting 91fps in Dirt 2. Then Dirt 3 shouldnt be to much more demanding

Overclocking the 560 can get you similar performance to a 570

It's a new game, it's possible he's cpu bottlenecked too.

How about waiting for Dirt 3 to release before jumping to conclusions?

Get a 570 and then SLI it? A 570 has more vram so if games get hungry on that you will be okay. It also has the same amount of Cuda Cores as the GTX 480, the only thing holding back the 570 from 480 performance is the tad bit slower vram and 256 mb less vram. Still, the GTX 570 is a much cooler card. GTX 570 FTW!!!

CPU bottlenecks ftw.

SLI it if you're that concerned. Though it would probably be wiser to wait until the game is actually released before you go buying new hardware.

The only single card upgrades as mentioned are the 570 and 580, neither of which are very good price/performance upgrade paths. Buying a 580 would net you ~30% performance for 100% extra cost, not counting the fact that you'd have to sell your current card at a loss.

He shouldn't be VRAM limited at 1080p.
