My last dealings with Seagate - Page 7

Glad I've always had good luck with Seagate drives, I have nearly all Seagate in my server currently and a couple WD's. My WD's have been running continuosly in RAID1 for 6-7 years now. My Seagates have been running continuosly 24/7 for 5-6 years now, the 2 newest ones are 1.5TB's and they've been running continuosly since August and no issues on any of the drives at all. I really don't have a preference myself I tend to lean towards Seagate as I've personally had more issues with WD than my Seagates.

But it amounts to the same thing though, although I disagree with you on that assessment. They are designed to work at their best as a single drive and are optimized to do so. If that means that it makes them unsuitable for use in a raid array, and WDC makes that quite clear then it's not really a problem with the drives. It's a problem with user's who aren't smart enough to read the instructions or warnings prior to attempting to use them in a raid array.

haha, you got me wondering about mine, I can't check the ones in RAID unfortunately as they're my oldest drives in my Server, but my next oldest drive is at 38500 hours, the one newer than that is at 25000, and my 2 1.5's are at just over 5000 hours now.

So on the oldest one its at just about 4.3 years continuos running 24/7 except for maintenance time and moving from one house to another.

Wow my Seagate External HDD just failed on me after not even a month! HDD is fine but the connector or GOFlex thing failed and stopped working...

Sorry to hear you're having problems. I've always had much better luck with Seagates than I have with WD. Infact after reading this thread I ran HD tune on my drives and discovered that my WD 320GB is packing it in. It just failed C8 Write Error Rate and my two 640Gb blacks are having some strange performance.

Can't even write this crap....
