Help With Firefox 4 default search engine

Thread Starter
Ok guys I installed the new Firefox 4 a few days ago and really enjoy it. However I cannot seem to change the default Address Bar search engine for the life of me.
It is currently Time Warners "Road Runner" search and I absolutely hate that.
I have tried going to about:config and changing the keyword.url string to http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q= Also I have gone to browser.search.defaultenginename and checked to make sure it is set to Google. Nothing has had any effect and its starting to really annoy me.

Also as a note changing the search engine in the side search bar next to the actual address bar. Will not change the default search engine for the main address bar.

Any help is realy appreciated

You've had no luck with the browser edit->preferences tab?

As far as i can see running through the options in the new firefox 4 all i can do is change my hompage the only "edit" option i have is for the text lol the closest thing is the options in the new drop down menu and all it will allow me to do is change the hompage

*edit* also after doing some research the default search engine is suppose to be Bing which i hate just as much. However I never even had Bing. I would have at least taken it over "Roadrunner" search.

The keyword.url thing should have worked properly. I've never heard of "Road runner search" but I'd say you may have spyware on your system of sorts. Run a scan of Spybot Search & Destroy and/or your antivirus.

does ff have an option for multiple search engines?
ie does with quicksearch settings
ex.
goo searchstring = google search
bing searchstring = bing search
yahoo searchstring = yahoo search
ect..

i often use
site = http://www.google.com/search?q=site:%s&hl=all
then if im browsing a site and need to find something there
modify the url to
site www.site.com searchstring
and it does a google search of site:www.site.com searchstring
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:...hstring&hl=all

about:config

keyword.URL

Modify

http://www.google.com/search?q=

It should work as I use https://encrypted.google.com/search?q= in my keyword.URL
