[MSN] BCE drops wholesale usage-based Internet bills

TORONTO (Reuters) - BCE Inc has backed away from a plan to charge its wholesale Internet customers on a per-user basis, following a public outcry that sparked political intervention.

Instead BCE, which operates under the Bell brand, says it will aggregate the amount it charges wholesalers that lease bandwidth on its network based on the total amount of data they use. It will also lower the access fees it charges them to use its newest fiber network.
Good work everyone, let's keep it up though because you know they aren't going to give up that easily. I expect the same effort and results to our brothers in the south.

What ISPs would do if they were smart: use usage based billing for all consumer bandwidth use, except pornography, which would not count toward your total cap.

90% of the country would immediately lose interest in the debate.

Hmm, but there's also downloading "Linux distros", right?

However, I'm pretty sure there's trick underneath, at least if I compare with my personal experience as a customer with them (last time I changed my internet plan with them, I was told a price at the phone, which I did accept, received an e-mail asking me to confirm by clinking on a link, but the price was a different one (by a good $8 at least), so I didn't click. They changed my plan nevertheless, and I got charged another price, between what was said on the phone and what was in the e-mail.) So screw Bell Canada, they're playing with your mind.

I have 100gb/month limit so I just try not to un-install anything. However if I did have HDD failure I have atleast 3-4 months worth of download priority planning. I get the choice of bell or bell.

I have 60gb a month, already paying 120 with phone + cable which isn't a bad deal for my area (went shopping).

I have to dedicate that to other things like streaming, downloading legit stuff, and school stuff too. So not all 60gb can go towards Steam. Technically, the games I bought on sale I'd be purchasing for full price because of ubb lol.

I'd feel bad for the people who actually did buy those games full price that are affected too. Hopefully if the election does come up, this will buy the people some lobbying power.

Check with your ISP, see if they have what they call download insurance for me it was 40gb more/month for $5 which was well worth it especially around Christmas. Yea, it gets pricey I skipped out on cable, I don't use it enough to justify $50 more a month and I have other options for watching TV on the rare occasion that I do.

No, I know Bell has that but Cogeco tell me to upgrade my package. The next one is about 30$ more for 40 gigs more. Don't really want to pay 200$ for my cable package. Unfortunately, other household members want the other two things as well. (phone/cable tv)

I wanted to try out teksavvy since I see their ads around here but it's still not available for my area unfortunately. Don't know how good they are either...If they come around though, i'll probably switch away from these monopolizing bastards.
