Resident Evil outbreak was 4 player co-op too. Nothing like l4d even remotely.

Nowhere does it say op:rc is a fps either. These guys are known for SOCOM, 3rd person shooter like every RE game has essentially been aside from the dead aim games.

The thread title is spin-off, takes series in "new direction"

Obviously they arent aiming for the same type of gameplay

then we have this.

I'm sure the game will have its own twists on the genre. Perhaps it will be less arcadey than l4d, maybe not.

Nothing says its not going to be another l4d type game. Whether you take it as good or bad doesnt really matter. It is what it is.

Man this is terrible news, I had hopes they would revive the old genre of survival horror like the good old days, instead they keep on tarnishing the resident evil name and releasing crap fests movies and "fps/action games" instead of forgetting what created them int he first place which was "horror" first.

Man this just makes me real sad. They destroyed resident evil after 4 even 4 in a way but it was a nice game nevertheless, even if it lacked int he "survival" and horror a bit.

its a real shame specially since we have a lot of graphical power which the old series lacked on due to technology.

Honestly, when I think of RE, I think of ammo conservation and long periods of nothing punctuated with pissing your pants. If this game has those things it'll win my seal.

yeah, nothing like doing nothing for long periods of time with your friends.

might work for singleplayer, but as a coop game, not gonna happen.

When I saw new direction I was hoping for more of a physiological horror type game. Maybe take things from Silent Hill and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Make the game first person would be another "new direction" I would had liked.

But if this just another action game with zombies and monsters, I'm just going to consider RE dead.

A new direction being that it's a co-op, possibly SOCOM esque game featuring tactics and teamwork.

If the game takes place in Racoon City, the majority of monsters will be zombies of whom are either slow moving or jerky-quick rather than rapid like L4D. Nowhere does it insinuate zombies will be changing, especially if you throw in they're including old characters.

Same thing with RE:Outbreak. The game was a spin off of RE. It wasn't cannon - it blew up Raccoon City TWICE with different scenarios you could play through with the first and sequel. You can't escape a nuclear missile, only to go back in and escape a second one in a different manner lol Outbreak didn't even make sense in that case, but it wasn't L4D esque at all.

If the purpose of the game is to carry out objectives, such as taking out Leon S Kennedy which is confirmed, then it's entirely changing up gameplay.

You take L4D and put it in 3rd person, which you can very easily, it makes no sense. There is no cover or tactical system at all yet alone proper gameplay to go with it. It wouldn't be 99% the same.
Throw in that this is being made by SOCOM devs, well.... you've got a game that's worlds apart from L4D even in 3rd person.

Resident Evil 5 while may be cool in form, it can be boring too. The same can be for L4D(always dealing with teammate issue). And the voice of the characters kill the horror games.

Though I like to have fresh run The 3rd Birthday genocide mode. ^_^

yeah, cause the objective of getting to a safehouse on the other side of the map is so much different than getting to the other side of the map and killing a guy are just so different.

You are assuming that because its socom developers that it is going to be a tactical 3rd person gameplay. What makes you think that? Sounds like you are making assumptions, the same as i have been doing.

Having a background in a certain game doesnt mean every single game they release is going to be the same as that.

But the popularity of L4d is begging for a rash of lookie me's, In steps this game, to fill that spot.

I dont deny that i am making an assumption, the same you are doing. Check yourself pal.

Didn't they sorta try this with Outbreak? The games weren't anything to brag about but they were still pretty good. I'll give this a try but I'm not too keen on them taking the series "in a new direction". But, I will be happy if they bring back the T-Virus and G-Virus instead of those damn las plaga

I'm glad we're getting CVX on the 360 eventually but I miss the old RE games so much. I miss the survival horror genre. It's all action horror now. I'd do anything to have a faithful REmake of RE2 and 3 with the old tank styled controls.
