1090T question from a noob.

Thread Starter
I want to build my another rig, and give my current one to my little bro....i heard people talking about these sandy bridges and been looking at the 2500k, my friend keeps saying to get the amd 1090T because it has greater specs, they are relatively similar in price, and 1090 T is x6 instead of quad core for 20 bucks less.

advice?

What will you be doing with the computer? The i5/i7 beats the Thuban in heavily multithreaded applications. The i7 is also faster clock for clock. I say stay with the 2500K/2600K, it's very versatile. Going to AMD will yield a hardly noticable difference.

Yeah going from a $190 CPU to a $300 one should be better. It all depends, for most people they will never notice the difference, and the AMD has socket compatibility in it's favour. You will be able to upgrade to Bulldozer, while with 1155-2 years from now it will be obsolete.

Gaming shouldn't be a problem if paired with a mid-to-high-end graphics card.

If the 1090t is lower in price then you can buy it without any doubt. Sandy and thuban are both great processors. Since you will be playing games and edit video, why dont you buy a cheaper quad and spend all you can on a greater graphics card. A 965 x4 supported by a gtx580 will be very powerful. If you want to OC to 4.5ghz or above then go for sandy.

this kid keeps telling me that 3.2 Ghz x 6 cores = 19.2 Ghz, which is better than 3.4Ghz x4 = 13.6 Ghz

I mean, it does look better on paper, but im showing him benchmarks, and he keeps telling me benchmarks are useless so im turning to you guys
