First build ever! Reviews?

Thread Starter
So me and my bro decided to try and build our first comp. We have been doing some research and have came up with the following hardware:

ASUS Rampage III Extreme
Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz
EVGA GeForce GTX 580
Corsair Performance 3 Series 128GB
Western Digital Black 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3
2x G.SKILL PI 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Corsair Obsidian Series 800D
CORSAIR Professional Series AX1200 1200W

i know the psu is a bit much for now but we plan on getting another 580 when the funds are there.

We pretty much need some advice and/or constructive criticism on the build.

I'm no PSU expert but I think 1200watts will still be excessive for 2 580's but everything else looks good.

Any reason you stayed away from Sandy Bridge?

I figured 1200watts would be overkill, but wattage aside it has gotten the best reviews everywhere I have looked, and as far as sandy bridge goes, I'm just not familiar with it at all, any links or info about it would be appreciated.

I like your build! Most people on this website will tell you a 850w is all you need for gtx580 in sli! I myself would say 1000w, I also have a 1200w because plan on a highend multi card video setup in the near future!!

I'm not sure what you'll be doing with this system but 12gb of ram seems a bit excessive

I made my corrections. Don't know why you chose the old generation I7's though.

Try this ssd: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-042-_-Product <---if you want to spend that much...

Save 10 bux and get an i7 950 instead...

...and the psu is overkill...

If you decide to go Sandybridge. Go with a P67A-UD7 B3 motherboard and a 2500K processor. Here are a few links for the motherboard.
