Question from new overclocker

Thread Starter
Hi there, this is my first serious attempt at overclocking and I am having a slight problem. I have read a ton of information on this forum and others and felt I was ready to take on the task of boosing my new rig.

I am going for 4.5Ghz on my i5 2500K, the Vcore is 1.28 right now and it ran through Intel burn in test and just under an hour of Prime95 with no issues and temps around 60C. Even though the clock tests stable I have blue screened twice now to a hardware error and memory dump screen. Once was during WoW and another was with the system idle while I was away. I can't seem to figure out the issue, any help would be VERY much appreciated.

My rig:
Intel i5 2500K (4.5Ghz)
Corsair H50 Cooler
MSI P67-GD53 Mainboard
Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) 1333 DDR3 RAM
Asus 570 GTX
OCZ Agility2 80GB SSD
Western Digital 2TB HDD
Thermaltake Toughpower 650W PSU

No, I left it alone. I just put the system together this past weekend and wanted to get everything sorted before I experimented with anything else outside my realm of experience. I doubt I will be messing with the clock on the GPU, for now it does everything I need in stock trim.

Test your rig @ stock clocks to make sure everything is working right. Then overclock slowly and double check everything to make sure everything is in proper working and running order.

Did you try to up the voltage on your CPU? If not, you may want to start there as BSOD's usually point to an unstable overlock. Is your DRAM voltage correct and did you set the correct timings for your memory?

An hour on Prime95 or even a run through the Intel Burn In Test is not necessarily indicative of a stable overclock. You might want to post some of your main bios settings you have tweaked and I am sure someone in here can help you out in no time.
