[Windows 7/8] Complete Client v7.3.6 Guide - Page 36

Ok, but it says in the SMP options that it should be set in multiples of 2, so let's say I pick 4, wouldn't that lower the GPU folding speed since it uses one core? Or is there a way to set affinity for the gpu and SMP process?

If you set it at 4 it will slow down your GPU, yes, but because the new core_16 units are not very optimized and uses too much CPU resources to run. If you had a nvidia card instead you could use all 4 cores with just a decrease in GPU folding performance of about 5%, maybe less.
The client states to be advisable only use multiple of 2 core numbers, but there are odd number of cores that won't give you trouble at all. iirc, -smp 7 is the one more buggy.

You can set affinity of the CPU cores to a specific process, through Windows task manager or any other 3rd party software designed for that, yes, but not in the client.

This may be a silly question but? I am still using the OLD type clients for GPU and SMP but am interested in going to this NEW client. Do I have to first uninstall the old clients or will they be made redundant by the install of the V7 one?
I have 3 machines folding, one with a Duo Core Intel and a GTX 285, another with a Q9650 and a GTX460 SOC, the third is a I7 2600K with a GTX 560Ti.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could install the new client and just not run the old ones. But v7 will not overwrite the v6 clients.

But to be honest, shy of having a 5/6 series AMD GPU, the new client is still too buggy/unrefined to be used. Unless you like finding bugs and having your settings wiped every so often, I'd stick with the v6 clients.

And a VM for your i7 2600k.

Is there any way I can pause only 1 client? Currently I have 2 clients running on the v7 client, one cpu and one gpu. My cpu gets too hot so I'd like to pause it and just let the gpu running. Thanks.

Yup.. make sure the mode is set to "Advanced" or "Expert", and not "Novice" (in the top right hand corner), then just rightclick the client you wanna pause.
