Eyefinity Question

Thread Starter
Hi All,

I just bought 3 23" Acer LED monitors. My original goal was to setup Eyefinity. My system specs are below, but I was wondering if I needed to upgrade my card to play at the higher resolutions.

or should I get a second card and go crossfire?

Your card is fast, but it may need more GPU memory at such a high resoloution, You may need to turn down the aa to keep mem usage low

If you are upgrading i reccomend a 2GB card such as the HD6970
post #3 of 35
You can upgrade to the 6970 2Gb, but save money and go with the 6950 2Gb card. You end up saving money and you can try to unlock it to a 6970.

Depends on what games you are looking to play at higher resolutions.

With the second 5870 would I still need the DisplayPort adapter? or would I hook up 2 DVI monitors to one card and 1 DVI monitor to the other card? for Eyefinity?

People say that going eyefinity with 1 card which only has 1gb will make your GPU struggle. So I say, get another 5870 and crossfire them.

5870 at the moment go for cheap anyway, besides that, if you ahve 1 card, you're GPU will struggle in eyefinity depending on what resolution you are using whilst gaming, but during normal idle desktop browsing runs, 1 card is 'good enough' for eyefinity. Gaming? high resolution? AA? get 2 ^_^

or better yet, sell the 5870 if you can, and get a 69xx ^_^

Edit: I reckon you will still need an active displayport adapter to make eyefinity work ^_^ as long as the 3rd monitor is connected via DP, the other 2 can be connected on via DVI or HDMI or DVI/DVI or whatever ^_^

Even if he went CFX, the 1gb vram would hold him back

69xx wouldn't have a problem with High Res gaming? I typically like to have the highest possible.

Which gpu would you suggest though?

Like I said, I'd grab up a HD6950 2GB card and try to unlock. If not, it still can handle higher resolution.
