Laptop for College - Page 4

in 2 months i think the new acer 4830tg might be coming out they had on sale in microcenter for the last series. Great laptop small 14inch there is a 15inch model, it will have the sandybridge model, 540m gpu with optimus for battery life. Also said price to be the same as the last year model which should range $900-$1k.

I shall wait, it seems that all of the models refresh in the next two months

Sorry. But OP. It's right at the top of this thread. Read that first and then ask.
That may be somewhat justified if he posted a thread asking it.

OP: Asus are a good choice, and the Acers have been getting a better rep than previously. Dell has some good options as well, with sandybridge (inspiron/vostro/latitude, skip inspiron if you want discrete gpu). I'd recommend 14" or so, if you already have a desktop. 15.6" is a little hefty for supplemental use imo, but if you go that route I would caution against the ones with 1366x768 rez. It's pretty bad on a 15" imo.

Have you thought about IBuyPower? They offer customized laptops for a pretty decent price.

why you need i7 & 540m ...both will reduce battery life because of higher tdp than i5 & 525m ...
check this dell xps model /choose msi fx620

I would go for a 13". Best balance of screen real estate and battery life. If you're going to and from classes, you will appreciate the lighter weight. Also, getting something with Optimus or maybe a Fusion-based notebook will also let you do some light gaming without totally draining your battery.

I like HP, Asus, Lenovo and Dell. I'd stay away from Acer.

I think I'm gonna go for this with the 2.3GHz(2.9HT) Sandy Bridge, the 540m, and a 9 cell battery. Still deciding whether or not to go for the 1080p screen because my dad said he'd split the cost.

Also, 500GB would be plenty if I brought my sig-rig, right? Just want to make sure I have plenty of room for whatever I would need for classes and out-of-dorm use.

Thanks
