Any reason not to get a Galaxy Brand 570?

Hey again all,

So i currently have a GTX 570 Twin Forzr in my rig, and it won't OC even to 850 stable. Plus its making clicking sounds that scare me. It's going back to Newegg.

When I got the RMA I bought a Twin Frozr 560 Ti for $249 (customer award winner, supposedly OC's like a champ and is cool and quiet, with perf that rivals stock 570).

It just arrived from UPS 5 minutes ago. I jumped on Newegg quick to see the Galaxy brand gtx 570 reference is only $289 after rebate (I always get my rebates).

So we are talking $40 more to go from Twin Frozr 560 to reference Galaxy 570.

Any reason to stay away from galaxy brand? I have only ever owned Sapphire, EVGA and MSI videocards. I'm scared of Galaxy because I do not know them.

Is there ANY difference between reference cards? I see EVGA has an etched logo on the fan of their 570, so I assume the fans are different? Does that mean the Galaxy model might be hair dryer loud with a cheap fan? I'm VERY noise sensitive...

Please offer comments, If I'm going to order the galaxy 570 I want to do it tonight.

The more I think about it the more scared I get about having only 1gb vram for games like Skyrim which I will probably play for a solid year (vanilla at first then modded to craziness).

HELP PLEASE! lol

EDIT: I had an EVGA gtx 260 EE model and it was very loud. Then I had an EVGA 460 EE and it was attrociously loud. I'm not too into the idea of an EE model card again cause their fans are soooo loud to me. Are this gen of reference coolers much better?

The clicking fan on the Twin Frozr can be fixed, beside the point ...
The performance difference is very noticeable ( had a 560 for like 12 hours , borrowed it ) I use more than 1 gb of VRAM in lots of games .. Plus okay your 560 can overclock to stock 570 performance, but how about when the 570 is overclocked.. Which leads me to my next thought, Galaxy is based out of IDK where, if you intend to overclock/overvolt your Galaxy 570 might want to think about how painful or painless the RMA process might be. ... Just my thoughts. Not sure what you should do tbh

At 1080p? Which games? Even Crysis and Metro don't break 1GB at that res.

@OP: At that price, the 570 is damn good buy, but you may have to be more conservative with the OC.

You won't get the same kind of temps or low noise level that you can get with a TF2 cooler, but afaik there's no reason to really be wary of Galaxy.

That said, MSI's warranty is 3 years instead of the 2 with Galaxy, and is serial number based. So if/when you choose to resell your card, you'll have a much easier time with it.

I had a Galaxy 8800gt and that was my last nvidia card. It sometimes would not post and I would have to play games to get it to post into bios on a new computer.

That said you could probably go better than Galaxy, all their cards can't have the problems I had.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Basically I was playing Dragon Age 2 and BFBC2 yesterday and I was right up around the 1GB mark on the 570 I have now. And thats games TODAY. i.e., I can forget about texture mods on skyrim if I wanted them with 1gb.

I know the 560 OC's to 570 perf. And I understand the 570 OC's to higher than that. But the 570 I have won't even stay stable at 850mhz at 1.088v, and I'm not going to 1.1 with the issues these 570's have had. (1.1v didn't stay stable either, still errors in OCCT)

So If the 560 OCs to 570 speeds, but the 570 barely OC's any higher, the 560 and 570 max OC are closer together than stock 560 and 570.

Basically, is 280mb of vram worth $40 if I'm planning to keep the card alone for 2-3 years?

Did you have to get an RMA through galaxy? If so, what was your experience with them?

Is the galaxy warranty not serial based?

EDIT: Also, I will be playing at 1080p, but at some point I would like to add a second cheapo monitor at 1024x768 or whatever for browing while playing. I know about the not downclocking thing already. Will the extra vram help with a second monitor at a different res?

EDIT2: Oh snap, it also comes with a USB TV tuner?! I was looking for a TV tuner!

@OP
so much mis-information tossed about Galaxy in this thread

they're a good company based outta HK IIRC
they've had quite innovative cards (think of them as the Powercolour for Nvidia)

for warranty requiring serials, I recommend that you check their warranty policy instead of just believing what others tell you because I don't know either

No reason not to get the galaxy card, if i can find a good deal and the reviews are good then ill buy the card, doesnt matter who made them, u can always rma back to newegg or rma back to galaxy.

I don't know from personal experience. I've owned and sold MSi cards before though. They are very easy to move because of their warranty policy.

I can't say tbh. I don't run multi monitors, though i suppose it's possible. My GPU-z reports 223MB of VRAM usage when I'm web browsing. I'm sure someone running multi's can chime in though.

Haha even better! Although that tuner doesn't have great reviews
