5850 Vapor-X Voltage Unlocked with Sapphire TriXX

Thread Starter
I've been searching online how to unlock voltage control on my 5850 Vapor-X and all the forums I've visited say that the voltage is hard locked and cannot be changed with software or BIOS flashing and the only way to change it is with modding. Some people suggested Sapphire TriXX, a new utility program for the HD6000 series.

Using Sapphire TriXX v3.0.6, I managed to run FurMark v1.9.0 stably for an hour at 950/1250 @ 1.170V. To make sure that the voltage was indeed changing I tested again at 950/1250 @ stock voltage (1.09V), immediately after clicking start on FurMark my computer froze, black screened and 30 seconds later recovered stating that windows has recovered from a video error. I tested this 2 more times and the results were the same.

Please let me know if there is anything wrong with my methodology here, but it seems solid and I hope the rest of my 5850 Vapor-X/Toxic buddies are as overjoyed as I am about this. biggrin.gif

I heard that too that it`s impossible to overvolt them and also that it might be possible to overvolt with trixx.
I can go up to 905Mhz and like 1220MHz without changing the volts and i don`t need higher clocks cause i don`t have xxl monitor+i don`t play crysis2 or something...
But nice clocks you got there. Have you testet if this is max??? maybe you could hit 1000/1300Mhz... That would be wicked!

I haven't tested max yet, I'm not exactly sure what the max safe voltage is for the 5850 Vapor-X so I'm a bit hesitant to put it past 1.2V. However I did try 960/1250 @ 1.170V and it crashed on me.

Also I've tested 950/1250 @ 1.170V in Left4Dead2, played for an hour, no problems. I tried testing on Bad Company 2 but it keeps freezing, forcing me to restart computer. I put everything back to stock and Bad Company 2 is still freezing after about 5 minutes of gameplay, must be something wrong with Bad Company itself, no idea what though as I just reformatted my computer.

I've got sapphire 5850 vapor-x and I can't change voltage.
http://www.overclock.net/ati/981586-unable-unlock-voltage-control-msi-afterburner.html
Changing bios and using trixx on original nothing change.
Now I think about flash 5870 bios.

I'm using stock 5850 Vapor-X bios with TriXX v3.0.6 and catalyst 11.3. I also uninstalled afterburner and ati control center before installing TriXX. Give that a try.
