Is a SSD worth it? - Page 2

I needed to change my language settings back to English after I played a couple Japanese games.

Over FB chat I told a friend I need to restart. A minute later, I was talking to him again. He said he didn't even notice I was gone.

SSDs are awesome.

I also know it drives people just like myself crazy when people go on about the windows index rating but im in a bet with my friend who says i cant get the rating over 7 which clearly i cant with a regular hard drive so will this one do it? And if so how would i have to set it up? Any help or info would be great!!!
Well for reference I'm running a 64GB SSD as my boot drive for win7 64 OS + swap + some apps + not much else. SMART data reports that given my current usage (and this is based on initial reinstall pattern using it a lot with benchmarking tools and installing stuff) the drive should last an estimated 9.8 years.
My WEI is 7.5 for the drive and it cost $80.

I love the access time and the responsiveness of windows running off it. Definitely a better investment than most other upgrades.

I've always wondered how much of a benefit is the SSDs.

I could consider a 64gb for around 100. That in my opinion might be worth the try. I still like my spinpoint f3 1tb. It is a lot better then worrying about free space. Plus, it is 55 bucks on good days off newegg.

Has anyone timed the load times of various games and such? Saying that it loads fast as heck or you have no time to do anything else before it loads means almost nothing without before and after number.

The slowest SSD can outrun a fast HDD by miles.
Read here for more info: Why you should want an SSD, by Anandtech

It's not simply loading times. The name of the game is latency.

80GB is good, 120-128GB better and anything above 160GB is perfect

I've purchased several OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs and they are INSANELY fast. Unfortunately they have all failed me. OCZ has RMA'd them all without hassle but I am beginning to wonder if its the drives or something I am doing to them. In any event, I use a HDD on my work machine and SSDs on my gaming desktop.
