Is a SSD worth it? - Page 3

I also know it drives people just like myself crazy when people go on about the windows index rating but im in a bet with my friend who says i cant get the rating over 7 which clearly i cant with a regular hard drive so will this one do it? And if so how would i have to set it up? Any help or info would be great!!!
I can't speak too knowledgeably on the subject. However, the rig in sig has a Crucial 128 GB 6.0/sec SSD and I get the max of 7.9 on the Windows Index Rating. I don't put much faith in that either though. I just know everything seems to open a lot faster with the SSD. My primary use of the computer is to do Sketch up drawings for work. I never opened files for that program in half this time before.

Yes, it's 100% worth it. I had a 750GB WD Black and went to 60GB Vertex. The difference is completely worth it.

After I used a 60GB Vertex as a bootdrive, I couldn't stand using my sibling's or friend's computers because their hard drives would make noise, boot times, virus scans(on the OS drive), program start up, etc were all longer! It made me wonder why people were so focused on installing the latest processors when switching to an SSD makes more of a difference.

SSDs are awesome.

I did that to my friend. Except it was with a socket 478 pentium 4 2.6ghz, 1gb of RAM, and a 32gb Corsair nova on Windows 7 32bit... he couldn't believe it.

This is true for laptops.Once you let it hibernate you don't get it back. There has been numerous issues, practically 99 percent of them with laptops. It boils down to bios compatibility and laptops bios suck.

Oh yes...I had to restart my computer for an update while chatting with a friend online. When I came back I said, "Sorry, I had to restart my computer". He replied, "What? no way, you were gone for like 40 seconds".

awww you guys are making want an SSD so bad...

But i've always said I want to be able to buy a new SSD at less than £1 per GB, and not one of the budget ones either (has to be upper third in performance).

When that happens, I'll get one... Or when I get back home in the summer, hopefully all the new ones will be out by then and the prices stabilised

No. I've noticed zero real world improvments over my traiditional HDD. People are hyping them way more than they really should.

Looking at your system, not knowing your circumstances. Maybe get a better GPU first then get a SSD, or do it in reverse up to you. Your system would definently benifit.
