Running prime for an hour my max temps on the one core hit 83 using real temps. The other cores are all 4-6 degrees less. I had it OCed to 5.0@1.44. I am using a Thermaltake Venomous RT and the fan that came with it. I imagine a better fan would see those temps drop a few degrees, but its probably not worth the investment right now. I'd rather keep it at 4.7 and wait to get it under water versus adding a better fan now.

What scares you? 70 scares me, lol.

Wow, I was about to say "way to go!" then I read the OP

If you have a decent chip then yea, I have seen people pulling 4.9GHz with H50s.

If you lap the chip...

I mean it doesn't leave much room for error, you'll need to get seating perfect and have top end air cooling, but it'll be damned epic if you manage it.

Like I said, 83 was my highest. I expect the temps to climb while running prime, but 83 is way too high for my taste. What kind of temps are you seeing on your 5.0 and 5.4 OCs while running prime?

Now i have 62-61-63-64 but i only have a 2500k. So no HT which can affect temps.

At 5.4, I don't even know. I just ran super-pi, CPUz validation, then quit lol.

I thought about turning HT off, but figured, what's the point?

83 is too high for anything that will actually run at high load imo. I tend to aim for 70 regardless of chip.

I mean I have my work PC running at 80 on load, but I don't give a **** about it ^-^

Not to mention, it's often said most human's can't easily tell the performance difference between a 10% OC difference without benchmarking, so dropping from 5 to 4.7 you're unlikely to see a difference (though there will be a small one ofc)

I know I most likely can't tell the difference between 5.0 and 4.7. However, this is a site for overclockers. I have to try and keep up with the Jones' I read all these posts about guys with 5.0 or better OCs and I'm damn jealous

Well, 70 is my goal eventually. I am going to get her under water first. Then, whatever OC it will handle while staying at 70 or below will be my 24/7. I really think I have a decent chip and it will easily go over 5.0 with the proper cooling. We'll see in about a month or so...
