So basically all your're saying is that you wish the first iPad was crappier so the iPad 2 would be a better improvement?

What else do you want? The Xoom doesn't have much, if anything on the iPad spec-wise. And the current software ecosystem on the Xoom is a joke....

How many of those thousands of iPad apps were developed because Safari can't browse the real website because it has flash video?

If you look at it that way Android tablets have millions of "apps".

Also, Android actually has app scaling built in. It can literally handle thousands of resolution combinations, whereas iOS works in fixed values, and can only scale linearly or not at all.

Subtract the number of Android apps that don't need tablet versions and the difference shrinks even more.

Indeed.

In my experience with the Xoom, I literally downloaded tons of apps that were not yet designed to run on Honeycomb. Well what do you know, most - if not all of them - work. The only problem with some is the scaling, but nothing a widget resize would fix.

Android apps really don't need to be engineered specifically for tablets in order to function on tablets. A lot do scale up (even down) on any Android device without much hiccups - and if there are, developers can just do quick fixes and have updates ready in no time.

The reason why Android Honeycomb has at most 17 apps at this time is that developers just got the Honeycomb SDK when the Xoom hit shelves. Give them time to do their magic, and I'm sure we'll be seeing great apps. Add to that, the Xoom has an unlocked bootloader - CyanogenMod, anyone?

Did he get so excited he posted this in the wrong section?

Anyways, regular phone apps run fine on the tablets because Android has been used to that exotic thing called "multiple resolutions," for a while so it isn't pixel doubling, which far as I know, iOS 4 now just make it so you make phone apps at the 960x640 than they down res it for the 3gs and below instead of using framework like Android.

Then you have fat fingers. The DPI on tablets is roughly the same as the DPI on most monitors.

And as far as the whole compatibility thing... it should take developers less than an hour to add a tablet layout to their app. Android natively detects what type of device you're using and scales accordingly, so you can specify how the app expands based on the size of the screen. Expect App developers to start doing this once Honeycomb catches on.

So yea.. Apple's 65000 iPad apps won't be looking so good against Android's 300000+ marketplace apps that just "work".
