Intel DBX-B on a 920

Thread Starter
I have bought the DBX-B on eBay for $24.99 several months ago and have been using it for a while. I am overclocked to 3.65GHz and get 48 degrees idle and 78 degrees full load. It seems to be way better than the stock cooler for the 920. Why are those 3rd party coolers (Thermaltake, Noctua, Thermalright, etc. so expensive compared to the DBX-B? And do you think I could hit 4GHz with those more expensive coolers, or is there a way to get there with what I already have (I have the D0 revision)? BTW, I did not use the supplied thermal grease as it looked suspiciously like Elmer's glue, and instead used as5.

If you have a spare fan laying around maybe see if you can mount it on the otherside of the heatsink in in PUSH->PULL configuration?

I don't have any 100mm fans, and besides there isn't really a place for them to attach. When I need extra cooling, I just slide the switch on the heatsink from Q to P.

It's a stock cooler, there isn't really much to say.

Although it's a stock cooler, it's a pretty good performer, better then some of the aftermarket offerings as a matter of fact.

However, I don't think you'll be able to get to 4GHz with that cooler, unless you got super low ambients, or you have a very good chip.

A better heatsink will definitely help you get to 4GHz. $50 will get you something like the ThermalTake Frio, Megahalems etc, which performs substantially better then the Intel cooler.

It's better than an AC FP7. Too bad it doesn't come with non-premium chips.
