I have a confession to make: I love Crysis 2! (and the bugs are fixed!!!)

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Both the "melee bug" and the "Nano Catalyst" bugs have been fixed in the latest patch, version 1.2!!

http://www.mycrysis.com/forums/viewt...p?f=40&t=20296

Quote:
A new Crysis 2 PC patch is scheduled to go live later today. Below you will find a list of the top fixes.

List of changes
• Further improved anti-cheat measures
• Fix for spurious characters appearing when initiating text chat
• Fix for Chatlog doesn't disappear after kill cam
• Fixed occasional login issues
• Changed VOIP defaults
• Fixed some UI aspect issues on multiple monitors
• Added option for crouch toggle in MP & SP
• Fixed a bug where players lost Nano Catalyst points after restarting the game
• Filter settings in server browser are now retained
• Default player count required to start a game from the lobby lowered to 4
• Fixed issue related to “Deleting Reference Counted Object Twice†error that appeared for some users with strict router/firewall settings
• Fixed issue of not being able to melee after dying
• Fixed issue where some video cards were being stated as unsupported

We’re working hard with our Ranked Server Partners to switch the servers at the same time that the patch goes live – but inevitably this will take time so we ask for your patience. When you launch the game, the patch will auto-download. If you cannot find servers, please exit the game and re-start to ensure the patch has applied.

You can check the version number by selecting Properties on Crysis2.exe and selecting Details. The correct version after patching will be 1.2.0.0, and the executable will be signed by Crytek GmbH.

Update #1
Added the Nano Catalyst bug to the list of fixed issues. There seems to be a little confusion about the patch so please note, this is not the full list, but rather the key highlights.

Update #2
Added several other key points that are included with this patch.

For Steam Users
Steam users will experience some prolonged loading times in this patch for which we apologise. We will update the Steam build in the next few days to resolve this issue.

My original post:
I only play in Single Player Mode. I don't enjoy MP games.

The reason why this is a "confession" is because I originally made it sound like I hated it; I made it sound like my mind was totally made up. However, that was just because I hadn't given the game a real chance; I went into the game with a very closed mind. I mean, I didn't fully understand what Crytek meant when they were saying that Crysis 2 provides a totally different and new experience. I mean, I kinda expected most things to be the same except for the location (New York instead of Lingshan Islands)!

Unfortunately, I also thought that there were some bugs in this game! So that made it much worse because not only did I go into this with a closed mind, but there seemed to be some terrible bugs!! However, it turns out that this game is nowhere near as buggy as I thought:
  • When I die and press Enter to come back, it seems like I lose my melee ability (along with stealth kills, of course). However, it turns out that it's just temporary! I mean, it takes maybe 10-20 seconds or sometimes a minute or 2 for the ability to come back, but it definitely comes back! However, I think I have to do some testing to see why the amount of wait-time varies.
  • I had previously thought that if I chose to exit to the menu and then choose Resume Game, then I lose my melee key functions like above. However, it's just like before: all I have to do is wait like 10-20 seconds or sometimes over a minute or 2. It can seem like a long wait, but it's actually not bad since after all, it will work as long as I wait.
    • I think these two bullet points explain why some people haven't noticed it! I mean, how often do you use melee during the first maybe 10-90 seconds after loading a game?
  • Unfortunately, it's still true that when I choose to quit, I lose all of my Nano Catalyst.
  • Fortunately, I was wrong about losing all of my Nano Catalyst each time a new level loads!

So I think the only real bug here is losing all of my Nano Catalyst if I quit the game, even if I do it immediately after a checkpoint. Other than that, the game is basically bug-free. Well, I guess I could call this little delay before I can use my melee key a bug, but at least it works (as long as I wait for it).

Now, here are some things that I love:
  • Strength Mode is enabled when I hold shift while looking through my weapon's sights (like Iron, Laser, Reflex, Assault, etc.), and it holds the weapon far more steady than in the first Crysis - it's almost as if it locks it into place! That's how strong this new suit is! I can even use strength mode like this while cloaked in order to steady my aim before uncloaking! So I do this: right-click, take aim, press and hold Shift, uncloak, fire, cloak.
  • If I have a silencer attached to my weapon, then I can fire 1-3 single shots while cloaked without uncloaking! This is because it takes much less suit energy to fire a silenced shot now!
  • Strength Mode is enabled when I hold down Mouse 1 to throw an object, such as an enemy (but not for grenades; grenades are always thrown the same distance no matter what - however, this new nanosuit is much stronger, so it doesn't matter)
  • Armor Mode is not only awesome for running around out in the open during a firefight, but it also makes fist melees deadlier (it's kinda like brass knuckles with an extra kick). Plus, just like being able to combine Stealth Mode and Power Mode for steadying my weapon, I can combine Armor Mode and Power Mode too!
  • Armor Mode also lets me drop down from extremely great heights without dying. I can also wait just before impact before enabling Armor Mode in order to maximize the amount of suit energy for Armor Mode. However, I have to be careful that I give the suit enough time to fully transition into Armor Mode or else I'm just committing suicide!
  • I can slide now! Plus, sliding into enemies knocks them over which results in them saying funny things (especially if I don't run away or enter Cloak Mode).
  • I can also kick while sliding in order to injure or kill an enemy.
  • Visor Mode: if I'm in a dark spot (or if I'm looking at a dark, or solid-colored object with almost no details), then I can easily use Visor Mode to tag every single hostile in range without needing to see them which means I can take my sweet time without needing to be cloaked! Fortunately, Crytek put these dark areas before every new situation. All I have to do is enter cloak mode, get close enough to trigger the next set of enemies, and then back away into a dark place so I can tag everyone. hehe
  • The Visor tells me who I'm looking at which means I can tag only what I want. This is especially useful if I'm at a new situation where there are tons of C.E.L.L. operatives fighting a bunch of Cephs: I only want to tag the Cephs because the Cephs always win. hehe So, I let them win and then I go kill the Cephs.
  • Any inanimate object that's tagged remains visible outside of Visor Mode! Unfortunately, the goal/objective doesn't (I mean, I'd like it to remain visible just like the yellow tactical options).
  • I can grab those Cephs by the throat. Whee!! Although, I think that this would be a death wish in real life.
  • Nano Vision. Need I say more? I freakin' love Nano Vision!! It's not just "Night" Vision anymore! Combined with Cloak Mode, it's kinda like being The Predator!
  • Ledge Grabs! Thanks to Mirror's Edge, I freakin' love ledge grabs!
  • Middle-clicking is now very optional. In my opinion, it's obsolete! I mean, all I have to do is press Q or E for Armor or Cloak Mode, B for Visor, C for weapon customization (but I've always used C), and V for Suit Module customization. So, I don't use middle-click anymore!
  • The new weapons are great, and they have fantastic sounds!
  • Unlocked Suit Modules are tied to the profile, not the checkpoints/progress. This means that once a suit module is unlocked, it's written to the profile which means it's permanent. So even if you start a fresh new campaign with same profile, you start the game with all of your unlocked Modules! Or, if you were to load the very first checkpoint in the game, then you'd still have all of your unlocked modules! So if you want to start a new game with absolutely no unlocked modules, then you'd have to use a fresh new profile.

Finally, last but definitely not least:
  • The graphics!! Sure, there are some really low-res textures on things like brick walls and whatnot, but we're supposed to be enjoying the game, not examining some of these textures. I mean overall, it's a better-looking game than the first Crysis!
    • My favorite part about this is that Crysis 2 is liquid-smooth on my system while the first Crysis always runs at like 10-25 FPS. So, my eyes last much longer now.

Yeah, I said it: the graphics are much better, but they're better where it counts. Yes, there are parts of the world that look worse than Crysis 1 (like the cars), but I'm at a point in the game now where those things don't matter because I'm too busy annoying my enemies.

In other words, if you want to get this game, then I highly recommend it (although, there's almost constant profanity throughout the entire game, and "god dammit" and "god damn" occurs far more frequently as well). However, I have to be very clear about one thing: this is a completely different game. I mean, it feels like it shares nothing in common with the first Crysis - especially at first.

Plus, there are certain changes that Crytek made which don't make sense at first - especially if you're very accustomed to the way the first Crysis is. However, the reasons for their changes become clearer and clearer as you keep playing. After a while, you'll think that all of the changes make perfect sense! So don't give up!! Keep the initiative!

I'm still preferring the SP of Crysis 1 to that of Crysis 2 - it feels much too console-ified for my liking...

That being said, I still don't regret spending $70 on it; as I'm thoroughly enjoying the plot

Yeah, I liked that you can keep all of your suit modules when restarting a new game. I noticed that when I started Post-human difficulty. Makes it so much easier...in fact, replaying the first half of the game on hardest difficutly with those suit upgrades intact, reverts the game to slightly hard-difficulty....but, I'm sure that'll change once it's full on aliens.

Nevertheless, glad its grown on ya!

The single player is cool. I think I enjoyed the single player of Crysis 1 more because you had a lot more freedom. But this new game is more action oriented and I appreciate that. The story is also more engaging.

The multiplayer is very addictive, I just hate that the rounds are so short. As soon as I pick up momentum the game is finished.

I agree, we need some positives here

I know at first I made it sound like I hated Crysis 2, but I think I've narrowed it down to these bugs which I am gaining control over:
  • If I die, I usually lose my ability to melee when I press Enter to load from the last checkpoint. To fix it, I have to exit to the menu, close Crysis 2, open it backup, and Resume Game.
  • When the above happens, I usually lose all of my Nano Catalyst too. Although, this might not be a bug since after all, I died. lol
  • When a new level starts, I always start with absolutely zero Nano Catalyst. Now that's a bug.
  • When the above happens, it takes a while before my Nano Catalyst collecting begins to be recognized - almost as if it's waiting for me to surpass the amount I had before (so, the more I had, the longer I have to wait). So if I had 4000 Nano Catalyst, reach a new level, I start with zero. If I were to reach 4100 Nano Catalyst during the new level, then it would show my total as 100, and then it would increment normally from there as though the counter was asleep before.

Fortunately, I don't have to deal with this very much at all if I stay alive which is getting easier and easier to do. I'm almost back to being an Iron Man. Although, it still starts me with zero catalyst when a new level is loaded.

In addition, I have a feeling Crytek will release a patch to fix these bugs!

Now, here are some things that I love:
  • Strength Mode is enabled when I hold shift while looking through my weapon's sights (like Iron, Reflex, Assault, etc.), and it holds the weapon far more steady than in the first Crysis. I can even use strength mode while cloaked in order to take aim, steady it with Shift, uncloak, fire, and then cloak again. This makes killing things much easier.
  • Strength Mode is enabled when I hold down Mouse 1 to throw an object, such as a grenade or an enemy.
  • Armor Mode is not only awesome for running around out in the open during a firefight, but it also makes fist melees deadlier (it's kinda like brass knuckles with an extra kick).
  • Armor Mode also lets me drop down from extremely great heights without dying.
  • I can remain cloaked if I fire a single shot when my silencer is attached. I can sometimes get 3 shots off without uncloaking. So, that's 3 free head shots!
  • I can slide, and it also knocks over enemies.
  • Visor Mode: if I'm in a dark spot (or if I'm looking at a dark object), then I can use Visor Mode to tag every single hostile in range without needing to see them which means I can take my sweet time. Fortunately, Crytek put these dark areas before every situation.
  • I can grab those Cephs by the throat and take my anger out on them. I think that this would be a death wish in real life.
  • Nano Vision. Need I say more? I freakin' love Nano Vision!!
  • Invincible vehicles. I mean, when I'm driving a vehicle, it's free God Mode!
  • Ledge Grabs!
  • Sliding and kicking during the slide
  • Tagged weapons and ammo supplies remain visible outside of Visor Mode!
  • Speed Mode works while cloaked (but speed mode is basically just slightly faster sprinting)
  • All I have to do is press Q or E for Armor or Cloak Mode, B for Visor, and C for weapon customization (but I've always used C). I don't use the middle button on my mouse anymore!
  • The new weapons are great!
  • Regardless of which previous checkpoint I load, I always have all of my unlocked suit modules!!!! So I can essentially start a new game by loading the very first checkpoint while still keeping all of the modules that I have unlocked so far!

In other words, I'm glad I kept playing!! I mean, I almost quit!
Everything takes time, glad you like it so far. I believe patch 1.2 which will be released soon will fix MP and SP bugs, so, it's only a couple of days away I agree, it's an awesome game and the suit integration is nice. Some textures could be better but overall it surpasses Crysis graphics.

@Bolded Those are awesome changes that I liked. Armor mode while depletes energy actually takes much more hits than it did in Crysis. While I didn't mind using the mouse wheel for changing modes, I could never do it fast enough, etc... but with the new hotkeys, I'm able to switch on the fly and I'm able to combine three modes at once now instead of the usual one only, possibly two max in Crysis. Nanovision also makes for interesting scenarios and headshots are a lot nicer for some reason
