It should've auto patched. Mine patched before I had to activate the game.

Strange...I was playing and surrounded by flickering water and saw no patch. Might try again when I get back on my rig.

Just download the patch from fileshack.com

I personally think it's great. The art direction is vastly superior to the originals. Feels like the game has much more direction as well and the atmosphere is one of the best for a post apocalyptic world next to metro 2033. People say it's consolized because of the small spaces compared to the original but the small areas are what makes it feel so authentic for a portrayal of New York. It actually feels like you are dead center in one of the largest cities in the world. Yes I miss advanced graphics options but people will make some good custom configs in the coming weeks that will surely make the game look better than the original since stock max settings already comes very close if not better in certain areas. I also agree it clearly is consolized to an extent but that doesn't inherently make it bad.

True, no need to prone. As for leaning, you can lean when you get behind objects, you just can't lean like in Crysis.

lol, the constant updates
Well, I keep playing it.

No, but I also don't know how. All I did was realize that I am not actually losing my ability to melee and stealth kill, but that I'm just being impatient. I mean, if I wait like 10 seconds or sometimes 1 or 2 minutes, then my melee comes back and then I don't have to restart the game which means I get to keep all of my Nano Catalyst.

When you've lost these functions, did you ever keep playing anyway just to see if you could finish the level? Or, do you always exit the game right away? I mean, regardless of how I quit and Resume Game (whether it's by death or by a manual quit/resume), I always come back without the ability to use my melee key and I sometimes can't switch fire modes. However, if I just wait 10 seconds or sometimes 1 or 2 minutes, then the function begins working again and everything is good. So, it's just that I didn't know this before.

So if I've worked really hard at collecting like 10,000 Nano Catalyst and then I die, now I know that all I have to do is wait after coming back and everything will begin working again. Fortunately, Crytek was smart enough to have the very beginning of each checkpoint be a completely safe spot.

Plus, it's sometimes good for a laugh.

I don't know what I would do about the graphics, but getting back to the melee thing: just experiment and be patient; it should always begin working after a moment.

Now, I need to do more testing to confirm, but I think the key is to just keep pressing it or to sometimes just hold the non-functioning key down (that is, when you first come back to the game after dying or after quitting to the menu).

No, I didn't remove the patch, nor do I know how to.

I know I mentioned before that I thought that it was possible that maybe the people who aren't experiencing any bugs are those who didn't install the day one patch, but what I'm trying to say here is a little bit unrelated because what I'm saying is that I was wrong: I'm not completely losing my ability to melee. Instead, I'm just assuming that I am and so therefore I never stick around long enough to see if it finally begins working.

So perhaps the reason why some people think it isn't happening to them is because when they Resume Game (either after a death or after quitting to the menu), they probably don't do anything but move around and fire their gun for the first few minutes after coming back. So maybe they're just not noticing.

They are right! It does look better on PC hardware, and even Crytek says so:

Yes, actually. Now, you could try Wasdie's Crysis 2 Advanced Graphics Options, but I've found that it still doesn't work for these 2 things in particular. However, I still recommend using it in order to simplify everything. So download it, open it, customize everything to your liking, click Apply, close it, and then I recommend manually editing the autoexec.cfg file in the folder "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Crytek\\Crysis 2". Copy/paste these values into the file right on top of the existing ones:
  • i_mouse_accel=0
  • i_mouse_accel_max=0
  • i_mouse_smooth=1

Also, if you see "gg_useHitSoundFeedback" instead of just "g_useHitSoundFeedback", then remove one of the 2 g's.

lol I have to admit that there have been a couple of times when I was genuinely startled by the sudden presence of an enemy only a couple feet away just like in real life!

Perhaps this is a bug that Crytek will fix in a future patch.

I think the game is pretty good myself.
I avoided all hype, demos and fail post release negative Crysis threads and just played it for what it was.

I had some expectations but overall it looks great for what they used and the campaign is surprisingly fun and enjoyable.

I finished the game in 9hrs and 33 min. on Post-Human difficulty, which is the hardest. It was a great game and I am pondering a second playthrough, but I will likely wait for the DX11 patch before I do. Was it worth $60? No way. It's worth the price it should've been at as a PC game; $50 and I am being generous considering the game's MP is just as secure as Modern Warfare 2's crappy IWnet and an editor wasn't included.
So, as I said earlier in this thread, I was going to play Crysis 1 before I bought Crysis 2.

Crysis 1 was incredible. I think the thing that blows me away is that over the past few years that it's been out, I hadn't heard anything about it outside of its graphic capabilities. The actual game was so much fun, and it was just insane how good everything looked. I honestly cannot believe it came out a few years ago. That being said, I played through the game two times, and after the second time I just had to get Crysis 2.

So, I played through Crysis 2 at a medium pace on Normal difficulty. I played through the entire game without encountering one game breaking glitch. I did, at one point, think I had stumbled onto a glitch when I couldn't hear my footsteps anymore, but that's because I activated the silent footstep nanosuit perk. Aside from that, the gameplay was awesome. I really liked the story too. I remember there was a point where I just laughed and thought to myself, This game just keeps getting more and more NUTS. In addition, the game looked amazing. You can tell the textures are inferior to Crysis 1, but I'd say the game looks just as great. I think what they were able to do is really take advantage of colors and lighting to get a similarly stunning visual using DX9.

I don't blame the developers though. I mean, being a gamer myself, to only hear about how computer intensive and graphically advanced Crysis 1 was, I now realize that the game itself was eclipsed by its own graphics. A lot of people (myself included) weren't interested in the game because we didn't have adequate computers and it didn't seem like the game had much to offer otherwise. So, many can argue that they held back on the graphics for the console porting, or because they didn't want to just release another graphics benchmark game. (I've got to admit, I really missed Crysis 1 water, it was so beautiful.) But, either way, both games were amazing.

Nice review, cinnamonbits!

Yeah, the water is different, but Crytek said that it's just due to it being in the city. Plus, I think they need to mention how the water isn't as important in Crysis 2 as it was in the first Crysis.

Anyway, I'm really glad you liked both! I have to admit one thing: if I need a good laugh and loads of fun where I feel like I'm doing nothing but pulling tons of pranks, then I might go for the first Crysis. If I'm in the mood for some real action, then I might pull out Crysis 2. Of course, this is me talking about the future when I think I'll reach a point where I've played Crysis 2 until my heart is content.

About the "No melee after death" bug, try picking up a weapon from the ground (if available). Seems to fix it.

Nice game anyways, although some bugs can be very annoying (I fell through the ground a few times in places with water, specially in Lab Rat).
