Friend needs a good Router

So my friend needs a good router, budget is $100. I honestly don't know too much about them, my last one was a Linksys that sucked and my current one is a D-link that works great. Other than that I have no idea what to recommend him.

Modem or router? If you indeed mean modem, then do you need it for cable or dsl?

Linksys E2100L. I like em cuz they have external antennas. Only Linksys product that does anymore.

I has DD-WRT firmware available - http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

Goes for about $90 -

Asus RT-N16. A router that can flash to DD-WRT if ya want (I did it and in my opinion has only improved this amazing router), has the power to handle anything ya throw at it (better hardware inside than most routers) and in my opinion is the best non dual band router out there.

alright, so I am not very experience with routers, what are the key difference between these that my friend will notice? He's going to hook them up to cable, its going to provide internet throughout the house to a couple different computers. I know my way around a router's website page relatively well but that is only after messing around for a while to figure out *** I need it to do. What major differences will I notice sending at most 1MB/s internet to maybe 4 computers?

Depends....If the signal is say 2/5 bars in one computer and 5/5 in another you may not really see a huge difference or you might see a night and day difference. It's more of a ISP issue with download speeds to multiple computers than it is the router. Unless signal strength is really bad, I wouldn't expect a huge speed difference from switching routers.

Alright, well my friend is complaining about signal strength inside his house, and it is by no means a large house. He says the problem is the router and knowing that his current one is pretty cheap I will take his word for it. Do you think I would notice any difference between either of the routers linked in this thread?

If he's experience weak signal strength, then yeah he likely would notice a difference. Is he gonna notice it in every area of the house? No, but he will notice it in some areas.
