I have my main program and OS on my SSD. So programs such like anti-virus, drivers, chrome. The programs you will use daily. Although I did try steam on there and realise that was bad because it installs the games on the SSD but you can move it with a program as it creates short cuts but didn't like the idea.

I use this. Although the C400 is rumoured to come out soon. I still haven't filled all 64GB. 32.8GB free of 59.5GB.

That SSD is worth it for a boot drive!

I just bought a new SSD and another 5870 to Crossfire for my rig..and based on that I would say SSD all day long!! The extra FPS with Crossfire are nice, but the gains in speed with the SSD for overall system use make it a much better upgrade option. Either way you really can't go wrong.

Who cares about Windows performance, A decent set of mechanical drives in RAID 0 are more then enough

If you decide on a 5850 let me know if you find an Asus refernce design. The longer you wait to crossfire the harder it is going to be to find one.

5850 if you are a gamer. SSD if games are less important.
What games do you play now and what will you want in the future
some games will benefit from the SSD, faster load times and getting in to multiplayer online are a couple things that come to mind
I say get the SSd and another HDD for RAID 0, put OS and drivers on SSD and everthing esle gets RAID, be the first one in to the map on multiplayer

Honestly, who needs their windows to start up in 10 seconds? I hit the button and go grab a drink, and in less than 1 minute I'm back and windows is fully loaded. I'd rather have killer graphics while gaming than the high cost of a ssd. Like others have said, if you're worried about windows performance, then get an ssd, but being a gamer I say CF your system.

It also depends on what games he is playing. A SSD could make a difference in gaming also. I play Eve Online, I have shaved 1 second off of every jump than anyone else in fleet or pursued, which equates into more kills.

SSD is also great for other apps, not just windows boot. He has decent graphics now.
