Side/downgrade question....

Thread Starter
thinking of trading my captivate for a T-Mo HD2

obvious benefits
-ability to use loads of OS's (WP7, Gingerbread , WM6.5, and other OS's)
-4.3" Screen
-More RAM available (576MB vs 512MB) I chew up loads of RAM all th time, more is better
-LED flash on camera

disadvantages:
-Screen is LCD not SAMOLED
-the Snapdragon SoC on the HD2 is weaker/older than the Hummingbird SoC

any thoughts?
I'm tied between sidegrading/downgrading to just waiting it out Q3 this year when I plan to treat myself to a new dual core phone :/

I really shouldn't should I?

snapdragon is faster than hummingbird.

the captivate is also able to load custom roms so i dont see why you cant use gingerbread.

I say have a play with one and see if those negatives (namely the screen, snapdragon is more than fast enough) are enough to put you off. Coming from a samsung I think you'd prefer it though, the build quality on HTC's are on another world compared to the samsungs (well, they feel cheap and plasticy and I really dislike that).

i prefer a stable ROM rather than CM7.....kinda unstable and i'm at risk of bricking my phone every time I flash difficult ROM's (build 1008 phone)

really?
I'm pretty sure snapdragon is < hummingbrid
its the 1st gen snapdragon btw

I don't really mind build quality as I've dropped my phone loads of time with no damage at all

I guess i'll find a HD2 around to play with first

humingbird is faster in everything that counts. But I had an HD2. Its thicker and heavier and lots bigger. other than that, if you really want to go ahead/

Go and have a play with them in a shop. See which one you like and come back and tell us. I stand by the HD2 though.

Ah, not available.... go and have a play with a desire HD, as far as I can tell their pretty much the same external design wise.

Nope, never touched one but I have a desire and love it to bits, the HD2 can only improve upon it with the sheer amount of dev support it has.
