New Build and Many If

Thread Starter
My first post for your advice, tonnes of questions

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz
2x Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB 10000RPM
Asus P8P67 Deluxe
Zotac GeForce GTX 570 1280MB
Corsair Vengeance 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit (CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9)
Corsair HX 850W ATX Modular

Use: photo editing maybe even video in the near future, virtulization for studies, only game I play for FSX.
I don't plan to overclock and would like the RAM to be 1:1 with the CPU which is stock correct?

SHould I bump the PSU to 1000W? SHould I use the HX or go with the AW Professional series?

In the NVIDIA GTX 5 series is the 570 the best bang for buck performance is it the 560?

What CPU cooler should I go with?

I have and case, DVD+RW and storage drives in my present machine I also have a single 60GB SSD.

many thanks

1) The HX850 is plenty enough for what your building.

2) 560 ti is the best bang for the buck (just like the 460 when it came out) since it OC'S like crazy, but the 570 is a very very good card as well (more expensive so not as bang for the buck as the 560).

3) As for the memory setup you may have to tweak it manually to get the 1:1 ratio.

4) CPU cooler choices:

Big size cooler:
- Spire Thermax Eclipse II
- Tuniq Tower 120 extreme
- Thermaltake Frio
- Noctua NH-D14

Any of the 4 listed above will do the job nicely for your Chip!

If you want a budget cooler though my old CM hyper 212 + can do the job pretty well! Your chip won't have higher volts than what I have and will probably still hit at least 4.5 GHz.

Right Now with ambients at 28~30*C with about 70% humidity I idle at 33*C at 3.6 Ghz and Max out prime95 at 62*C, during gaming I max out at 53*C. Please note that I live in a tropical country and it gets really hot so the cooler does a wonderful job for being roughly around $25~29 including shipping.

thanks for the replies.

About the RAM my present system has DDR2-800 but it runs at lower speed because of the 1333FSB CPU. I want to make sure that the DDR3-1600 will not give me a similiar issue with the 2600K I'm happy to use slower RAM?

In regards to the Velicoraptor drives. The 120GB SSD are cheaper but would be a good idea because from what I read they are no so great for editing/running virtual machines and best too stick with 10000RPM drives?

Looking at my present system do think its a good time for me to upgrade?

1) the 850Watt power supply is already enough, don't waste your money
2) The 560 is not the best bang for the buck, go with the GTX570
3) This one is great Spire Thermax Eclipse II

i would add H70 also in the list
and later u can add reservoir or something to H70 which will really give a good boost
and 560 would be the best bang for the buck
or u can also go for 6950 or may b crossfire 6950 ..
