imo Intel Burn test will stress your cpu more.
but you need to run it properly

before running, open task manager and see the amount of free ram.

for example i have 2550mb free ram so in IBT i enter a custom amount of 2500. (just below the free amount)
then i change the threads from auto to 4 (quad core)
now every run i make i always get around 40-42 gflops. (consistent)

The following is the estimated GIGAFLOPS for a few chips:

E5200 @ 3 GHz 19-20 GIGAFLOPS
E8400 @ 3 GHz 21-22 GIGAFLOPS
E9550 @ 4 GHz 54-56 GIGAFLOPS

" I would choose 'free' memory as available memory will also make use of cache memory which must be storing data for other applications aswell. Windows may free up some physical memory from the cached memory during testing but not totally and i think the rest will be the virtual memory as a compensation.

Available = Free + (Cached - Modified)"

running just free memory will help you get higher gflops, as its just using free ram and not cached ram
this should also have 4 or 2 cores running at 100% (or how many your cpu has)

this will give you more consistent gflops score, but will also make your temps higher, as more gflops, the more the cpu is stressed
most people agree, that a stable overclock is 50 runs of ibt, but this is debateable, its personal preference, some will just run 10 passes and the overclock can be stable.

full explanation on how to run Intel Burn Test here
http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...test-linx.html

keep at it, you have an excellent mobo and cpu, you will get there eventually

Short term test with OCCT 30-60 mins. Final testing with P95 blend or large FFT 4-6 hrs. You really don't need to waste hours of time with IBT/P95 until you get up to your max clocks. Unless you want to spend weeks instead of a few days. IBT IMO is just a waste of time anyway, as it just generates alot of heat and has no real-world use. Do it when you're finished if you really need to see how hot your rig can get. You'll be using completely different BIOS settings up near 500FSB anyway, so stresstesting 3.6 for hours is a waste of time.

You'll get by pretty easy to 3.8 or so, then you'll need to play with the GTL settings (CPU and MCH reference) and raise MCH Core volts and VTT to get the higher FSB stable.

Your RAM will be fine if it's 1066. Just set the RAM multiple to "2.00D" and it will be 1:1 with FSB which is what you want.

Again if you want to save a bunch of time I can post or PM BIOS settings that will get you at least 4.0.

everythings's running great, all the temps are below 50, sometimes up to mid 60s under heavy load and i'm at 3.6gh. i might try for 3.8 but its a minor difference. my only issue right now is even with all the temps at a reasonable range (almost lower than before overclocking, probably had voltage set wrong before) but theres a faint "hot plastic" smell in my house now, i don't know what it could be but its got me a little concerned. i'm watching temps and nothing's even close to hot enough to burn anything. oh but i don't have ram temps anywhere, how can i find that?
