People always say this. But by the time the 7000 series is out and you want to xfire the 6970, you will be told to just get a 7000 card and crossfire THAT later.

@luches

thanks for the tip. will more likely go the 5850cf route. ill test that radeon pro utility that you mentioned. again thanks!

though i just got some "???" when you said i can chose between different drivers, does that mean i need to install previous drivers also? wouldnt it delete the previous though? thanks!

@0m3g4

may i know what drivers you are using?

@relevant

thanks for the help.. i maybe going for the 5850 cf though since i already have one and its much less of a hassle selling it and buy a 6950. and 5850cf kills 6950 single i think.

@nixuz

+1m that is why im more inclined on going 5850cf or 6850cf NOW to get better performance comparing with 6950 and cf that later when 7 series is released.

Just read the slides at the end of the page one by one . Best explanation than anyone could give you ^^
read the Compatibility Profiles slide. It answers your question well.

What games do you play? I just bought a second 5850, and I see on average an 80 to 90 frame rate boost. This is in: BC2, COD BO, AVP. I get smaller gains in Metro and Shogun 2. For me it was completely worth it. I was able to buy a second 5850 from a member here for $150 and the lifetime warranty transferred over. Keep in mind that if you are playing with the voltage on your current card now, you probably wont be able to with the new one. Most new cards are non-reference, and do not allow for software based over-volting.
