[IGN] 3DS Costs $100 to Make

But you're paying more for the included software.

The Nintendo 3DS is in stores across the United States. Judging by a statement from Nintendo earlier today, the system is on its way to become quite the success story in its early life. Of course, now that the new portable is widely available, folks are discovering quite a bit, even going so far as to break apart the device and scrutinize its components. One of the more interesting claims comes courtesy of Gamasutra and research firm IHS iSuppli, stating that the raw parts cost of the Nintendo 3DS weighs in at $103.25.

Think about that… $103.25. You pay $249.99 – plus tax. But as with anything in business, a simple breakdown of a product's core components doesn't paint the full picture. Let's take a further look.

How much do you pay for the nintendo kill switch? How much do I have to pay to have it removed?

I wanna try one out... No intent on buying however. Too broke, and also portable handhelds never seem to satisfy.

I stopped caring about handhelds ever since smartphones became the norm.

I agree that portable handhelds dont satisfy, im giving them one more chance though buying a ds lite. $250 for a 3ds that includes 3d i dont even care about is simply too much.

As long as they can justify why they sell their sofware for so much then I have no problem with it. BUT if they are selling it at that price just for the lulz, I still have my receipt in hand

thats raw component cost. That doesnt take into account production cost, labor, retail markup, shipping etc.

And marketing!

I'd reckon Nintendo is making $50 profit per unit, more in other regions.
